Not to be cliche...

But is there any music from Japan that you like driving to? I listened to that Teriyaki Boyz track that was on Tokyo Drift and it made me wonder what real Japanese music is like?

ummm, well i havn heard too many songs. and that tokyo dift one was probably the best. i dont know how it is in mainland but here in okinawa they tend to REALY REALY try and copy the (WRONG !!!) american image. they mostly listen to american music. but it seems like they have to be the music or play the part in order to listen to it. ......for example......theres a lot over here that would sell there soul to be rasta, theres others that think that in order to listen to hip hop they have to dress and act and only hang out with americans that "look" the part. what they see on tv is what they think you have to do when you listen to that music. they are pretty much copy cats and it all just looks like one big stereotypical joke. okinawa is small and theres a huge american influence over here. when i did go to mainland i noticed that they like techno..........but its really fast and super computer generated, almost like your listneing to video game tracks. ........i really dont know, this is only what i have gathered soo far, im may be dead wrong

let me clarify cause what i wrote sounded a little wrong to me.......i love hip hop, reggea and everything else, so by me saying "the WRONG" american image it sounded like i was saying that hip hop and all that other stuff was wrong......not what i meant...........they just make it look like a bad movie over here. almosty like that movie malibus most wanted (funny movie though) . a spoof in other words.

well, I'm not Japanese, but I listen to a lot of Japanese music and have many Japanese friends. Not all of them are into hip-hop, but they do often follow the wrong image like what 20bdreams said. it's like monkey-see-monkey-do, they just follow what they see on the tv, but it's just some of them, though.
I recommend M-Flo, Nujabes, Ayumi Hamasaki, L'Arc~En~Ciel....the list goes on, it just depends on your taste.
my personal favorite is Feathers by Nujabes

i'm probably older than most of you but as a single track i like "storm" by the yoshida brothers, 3 stringed shamisen mixed with rock?
and as a group i like "shonen knife", now defunct as 1 of the sisters left the group and joined a nunnery.
but in their heyday a rough edged girl punk band doing covers of the ramones etc.
in very cute, little girly, heavily accented engrish
memorable tracks being, "i wanna go to a sushi bar" and "suzy is a head banger"

google image search turned up this eric e

Not digging Nujabes so much, but I do like the Yoshida Brothers and Ayumi Hamasaki. Any more suggestions?

Decent Japanese hip hop exists in my opinion.
Def Tech
Kick the Can Crew
Rip Slyme
Budha Brothers

those are few of them.

Just like every other Fast and Furious movie it is all for show and it is no where near the truth. When will people stop throwing money at that stupid movie.

Not really into japanese music but I used to listen to a lot of Kick The Can Crew. They were dope, almost reminded me of Japanese Jurasic 5.
I can't find any good videos on youtube or google video though

The only thing I`m into right now is DefTech....but they are Jawaiian (mix of Japanese and Hawaiian bcuz one guy is Japanese and the other is white but raised in Hawaii) They are getting better as they mature in my opinion.
