中古FC build

I finally had some time to refresh my car a bit yesturday and will finish up today or this weekend.

Yesturday I swapped out my old OS Giken twin plate and found the discs only had 2.8mm left on them hahaha no wonder it was slipping under boost
I swapped in a B type OS twin plate and decided to try out a twin fingered (dual diaphram?) pressure plate. I got this clutch used also but it had 3.8mm of life on the discs and a new OS disc has around 4.00 I think so I figure it has about 75-85% life left on it.

Since the mission was off I decided I should swap my hiflow/hybrid turbo over to a better condition unit. It turned out that the turbo had been on a car that blew a seal before and so it had some chips out of the turbin wheel fins. So I was stuck with either using a stock S5 turbo or taking my pic of two different versions of Knightsports Hi flow turbos (one being the old and one being the new). Hmmm tuff decision huh hahaha. Well it was a bit tuff since I have heard better reviews about the older knightsports turbo than the new one so I went with the older version.

My Brakes have been super weak ever since I bought this car a year and ago and bleeding them, changing rotors, and changing the pads didnt seem to change anything so yesturday it was Brake master cylendar time. Taking out the turbo on a RHD FC is a pain in the butt with the brake master cylendar in the way so it made perfect sense to do this at the same time as my turbo and my clutch.

I figured that since the brake master cyl. was out,and the turbo was going to be coming up and out, that I might as well finally remove the air pump and all the accompanying hardware. So those were all yanked off the engine and intake manifold and then blocked off with block off plates.

Winter is right around the corner and since I had already removed my turbo and leaked some out I figured I might as well flush the coolant and put in some new coolant for this winter. That was quick and painless.

Putting everything back on always leads to finding new problems however I was lucky enough to only find a couple. One was my vacuum lines. WOW I remember inspecting them when i first built the car and they were not that bad but Oh what a difference a year can make! Needless to say I changed the vacuum lines.
The other problem I found was that I have a Blitz BOV. Well if you are familiar with blitz BOV`S then you know they are destine to break faster than most other BOV`s. Mine only has a slight leak at the piston so I did not need to change it right away but it did answer my question as to way I have a low and sparatic idle.

THE RESULT
In the end I worked on the car from 10am to 10pm. It was a long day but not tiring in the least. After removing everything and putting it all back air tight and lubed up the engine room is amazingly quiet. My previous turbo had an oil leak which was caused some blue/white smoke under boost but that has been cured by the new turbo. The old turbo also caused the car to be in a half throttle type of position more where the accel is not really on or off and you get a nasty tone coming from the muffler. This I suspect was due to the chips out of the turbin wheel and was also remedied by the new turbo. My old Hi flow turbo`s exhaust wheel was super white (running really lean) I am not sure if the white color or leanness of the air fuel mixture was from the half throttle issue or if my car is really running that lean!!! So today or this weekend I will swap in a new fuel pump, 720cc injectors (secondary only), and a Fuel pressure regulator.

The clutch feels and bites like a champ and I love it.

The brakes are solid finally but I am still not satisfied with there stopping power so I will be changing the pads out for some Endless pads, the current pads are project mu sports pads.

Over all the idle is a bit more solid and should be perfect once I swap out the BOV. I am excited to get the new injectors and accompanying mods installed so I can boost with this Knightsports turbo. My next project in the next month or two will be to install a Power FC.

I will get some pics up after I finish up the last couple things this weekend.
But for now here is a before shot.
Thanks for reading all that if you actually did

Tom

does anyone else notice that Japanese car engine bays seem to gather more dust than other countries? Not that your red engine bay above is dirty, looks really clean.

I have noticed that Japanese cars get green mold on them after sitting for awhile but that may be normal all over in places other than Southern California where it is to dry for that to happen.
Thanks for the comments everyone, maybe I will get started a bit earlier so that all I have to do next week is the Power FC and settings.

I wasted some time the other night and tore apart my tail lights. Here are the results of that. I also managed to back up into a wooden pole that smashed up one of my muffler pipes so since I could not reshape it into a circle i went with a triangle hahaha but we all know it is supposed to resemble a rotor right...
pics were hard to take at night I hope you can make out what I am talking about.

before tail light tear down and muffler smash

Tails after with the last pic you can see my rota muffler

hahaha, thats great, you need to do it to the other muffler opening so they match. More pics please.

I really like the finish of your matt black paint style. And that rear wing looks good too.

As for the green mold, Japanese has that humid environment for it. I was always shocked how dirty engine bays are in Japan, and thats one reason. My car has done alot of sitting around, its got 60,000km for 14years. Its all logged in the mazda log books, the first driver did 20,000km from 1993 to 2001. The second driver did the rest until i bought it. Thats my excuse for my filthy engine bay. Heres a pic, you can see that ive tried cleaning the green mould from around the top but around the wiring it gets difficult.
