Made some exhaust diffusers today [lots o pics]

Had today off, wife had to work (sucker) and the child was gone for the day, so I had the shop to myself at work and finnaly made my exhaust diffusers.

Made them from some 2.5" od 304 bar ends. Ignore the nick's and dings, I didnt really plan ahead to make these so had to make them with whatever resharp tools i had in the shop. 30min with a sanding drum and the id's will be perfect

Manifold side of the sleeve is machined to accept my primary manifold tubing. The sleeves are going to be welded to my manifold flange and the tubing, i will use an exhaust gasket however it will be completely separated from actual exhaust flow, and just serve as a seal

All that is left is some relief machining on the housings and to port the housing's to match

anyway, on with some photo's

Side by side with a T2 sleeve i got some measurements from

cosmo housing compared to my new sleeve

again

and some obligatory action shots

Thanks.

Im curious to see how well they are going to hold up. Hopefully they don't break apart and find there way though the turbine side of my turbo.

They'll be fine. 304 has a fairly high melting point and from a more simplistic point of view, if the stock ones hold up the ones you made should be more then fine.

The factory material will almost certainly be the patented 'super alloy' inconel. I don't think they will last as long as the factory inserts under factory operating conditions, but then again I would expect these to be used with a 'loose' manifold, turbine housing and a very well flowing exhaust.
