I'm thinkin' radio area fab...
So I did this with my old '86 GXL track car, and was thinking of doing something similar to the 90 Tii vert I just got:
Basically take the huge-normous triple-din out and fab some bracketing to kick that area (the face) of the console about 40° toward the driver (think 2G DSM or a more aggressive Supra).
My GXL had the gauges and switch-panels mounted there, but was going to install my new headunit there, instead.
Anyone got any ideas for this? I know I need to work up some reinforcement bracing due to both the ballast and weight of the single din, bit not really sure as to how to go about it...
It's either that or fab the center console into some kind of secure box and mount the headunit vertically (though not too sure how the CD player'll like that).
Any input would be great!
Thanks, guys!

Will have to see if I can dig them up. I had them posted here, and hosted on an old server, but since that was, like 7 years ago, the server isn't alive, anymore.

If you're just doing it for the radio it looks kinda goofy if you ask me. I think to make it look right you'd have to do it to the whole center surround. I've seen pics of a few done and it looks out of place to have the radio turned towards you but the heater controls and everything else stock. Just my opinion but maybe you can pull off something nicer than others I've seen.

I wasn't thinking of doing JUST the radio. the entire area below the vents (CC, radio area, etc) are going to be kicked.
I've not tried doing it in anything other than a purpose-built, which is what my previous project was, so I'd like to do it right, ya know?

Isn't that just a replacement plate for the gauges, though?
I'm talking about the whole center-console, below the vents. If I can't find one, I'll do a PSho mock-up and post it, for reference.

I actually found a bit more of a 'purpose-built' version, in the gallery section, which - now for the life of me, I can't seem to find.
If I can find the pic (the only one in the guy's gallery) I'll post a link....
Still need to do a PShop mock-up.

Well, stage-I is underway, today!
Stage I being HVAC relocation. Since I yanked my triple-din, OEM crap headunit, today, I pulled the HVAC control out and am putting it at the bottom of where the headunit originally was; in the amp area.
The first headunit I put (some cheap Clarion I picked up off of CraigsList) is going to be where the HVAC *WAS*.
Since it's all out, I may start doing the measurements of distances and angles so I can have a half-step up on the next phase.

Just looked at the relocation... I think the next place the damned HVAC will go is in the center cubby; since it's only 4 screws and a pair of plugs (ant the actual controller-face is about an inch thick, it'll be a since (since I've got the face relocated anyway, that is).

Well, here's a couple of pics from the first 1/2 - 2/3 of my phase one mod: The relocation of the HVAC, CD pocket and surround for headunit (in old HVAC location)!
I think once I move on to phase 2, moving HVAC to center console, things will clean up, easier...
That or I'll just sell this one and start anew.
