So you want to make solid mounts?
Making a good set of solid mounts will cost far more then $80.
Doing it wrong with two pucks of 2.5" thick aluminum and a bolt through the center will most certainly come to about $80 when you buy the materials and then spend the time.

it will be cheaper to try and find a stock set from someone used.
but if you really want to make a pair of mounts, it will cost more than 80 bucks, unless you get some free sheet metal. i had access to some 1/4 inch steel (way thicker than needed) but it was free. so thats what i used.
they need to be atleast 1/8 inch, but this thin will require smart building and bracing. your much better off using 3/16 inch as Aaron stated. make them as wide as needed. be sure your motor is not crooked and is the correct height.
also, you want to make sure the welds are good. what type of welder are you using? how experienced are you? solid mounts have a lot of vibration and could easily crack a weld with cold lap or bas fusion. having you drop your motor or worse...

I just finished installing the motor mounts I made. You can see the pics of them here https://www.rx7club.com/suspension-wheels-tires-brakes-20/my-new-motor-mounts-825372/
Granted I have machinery most people don't have access to, but a basic solid motor mount would be fairly simple to do.
