Theres a box of rivets and a sheet of aluminium here waiting for ya If you seriously want us to build ya one (or two), give Dan a call.

Just so everyone knows, this car is going to be street driven by Luke. He'll probably do some drag racing and lapping days with it.
He and Garth built the wing because they could, its not going to hurt the way the car handles or performs.

Keep an eye out for the engine build thread for this car....

Joe

Nice work. If that doesn't stick your *** to the ground, nothing will... except one of these undersided spoilers...

I'd love to replicate something like this for my FC... I haven't done the body kit thing yet but plan to someday, and I think an underside rear spoiler would really look cool below a custom bumber.... totally smooths our the rear end appearance of the car.

A real wing or a spoiler at a much steeper angle (something like 60 degrees) would provide MUCH more downforce, that is likely to cause LIFT.

In the link I posted, if you can get it to work and read the articles, you'll find a couple on spoilers, where they did CFD modelling on a NASCAR model. They found that at a flat angle they got more lift than without a spoiler. They did get less drag that way though, which is why this style of spoiler is good for drag racing, because it lowers drag. By the time you're going fast enough for downforce to really come into play, your wheel torque will be much diminished by being in a higer gear, so traction isn't as much of an issue any more, so downforce really doesn't seem like a good strategy for a drag car anyway.

That's called a diffuser, there's also a bunch of info on them and underbody downforce in the link I poseted. Basically, on a street car, the ride height is far too tall, the flow is far too disturbed, and there's far too much air spilling in from the sides for this to make much downforce at all. They're mostly just for show. To get one to really work well, you'll need to be really low, have a smooth underfloor, proper front airdam, proper sideskirts to keep the air from spilling in and so on.

Diffusers work by "pulling" the air out from under the car to create low pressure there, which causes the downforce, and since it's at the end of the line it requires that the upstream stuff be good too for it to be good.

Yes, it is designed to take advantage of the venturi effect.

Spoiler looks good and I hope you get the results you desire. It's cool to see projects like this.

If it were me though, I'd take cues from the time attack cars. They have wings high up to take advantage of less molested air, which has already been mentioned.

Luke

Absolutely beautiful Luke. You wouldn't have access to an RX-3 for mock up purposes do you? That is EXACTLY what i have been looking for.

Not that simple.

Airplanes can fly upside down.
