Why Top Gear never reviewed the RX-7 (FD)

I've seen the FC review, but i've never seen the FD review (FC was compared with the porsche). Did top gear ever reviewed the RX-7?

Some magazine did a test between the Porsche 911 and the FD back in the days. Test was performed on Spa-Franchorchamps and the driver was Jacky Ickx.

I know because that test convinced the previous owner of my car to buy it (over a Porsche ;-) )

Well, how "fair" was that test??? Jacky Ickx was working for Mazda at that time! He was involved in the LM team (oreca) that won Le Mans in 1991, and early FD-promotional prints have some text/comments by him!

main reason the man bought the FD was due to it's 50/50 weight ratio, which the 911 did not reach as the engine was placed in the rear

Yeah, how can you hang the engine at the wrong side??? It's like with Audi, having many of the engines in front of front axle. I thought most people would be aware that as much weight as possible should be between the axles...

Until a little while ago, one of the production staff on the show had an FD.

They never reviewed the FD, but I swear I saw some video of Jeremy driving a post-FD rotary concept car. It was the year that the FD was being retired I remember...

Er wait, I mean no I haven't ever seen Top Gear except for Top Gear America, because that would be illegal

Top gear did review the fd. Clarkson liked it alot. He actually wrote off the first fd he drove, which was one of the Mazda bosses own car. Hence they had to do a retake of the top gear shoot.

I haven't seen the review Brain talked about but I have a copy on vhs of a FD review by the young girl that used to be on the Top Gear show. No track test, just her talking more about the changes/ upgrades from the previous model. Actually, I remember her picking on the rears seat size and all the plastic used in the car. I think her only positive comment, it could run with a Porsche...ha

Bit of a shame they've recently changed the Top Gear website. It used to have archives and reviews of hundreds of cars. The FD (UK version) was listed in there and had a pretty good rating too. Dunno if that stuff is still online somewhere, would be a shame to have all that information hidden away, was quite handy.
