PFC experience

Well, just want to express my happiness to the European community that I have bought and installed an Apexi PFc and Commander in my 3rd gen.

Installation is pretty straight forward except from clipping the 4 wires. I went ahead and did that, but installed plugs at thesame time if necessary.

So for the rest it's just plug and play.

contact on, everything lights up.. check

start engine... nope.. just turning over, no spark.
Went inside, checked procedure on the forum... everything was ok....

Back to car... start again.. Vrooommm.. me happy

Idle was pretty good, little hesitations..

Next I followed the Idle learning procedure which was completely as described on the forum.

At last it was time to drive and.. HELLO.. what a difference...

The car has no extra HP for sure, but what a difference in driving behaviour.
Throttle response is very noticable, My Greddy Type S BOV finally does it's job (it was doing nothing but sneezing with the stock ECU), Boost pattern is ok making 0.74kg at +-4000rpm which correspondes with +- 9-10psi.

Seeing all those numbers on the display reaally makes you understand all the theories and tech talk about split ignition timing etc.

Conclusion: I'm inpressed and am , by no means, regrettign my purchase and the 6 weeks delivery time.
Maybe John reads this, so I"ll thank him again for the support and sending of my package and keeping up with my impatience.

and wich A/C issues?

Just get the Apexi suited for the car...... Jspec car, get a Jspec Apexi.... US car.... get a US Spec Apexi....

I'm putting in a Apexi + commander in a Jspec FD, plugged it in, started it, 45minutes of self learning idling and it's ready for tuning.

well I don't really know about the A/C because I don't use it as the A/C liquid is no longer in there.

What I did do at learning idle was, after 10 min with rear window heating, put AC on step 1, after a minute,step2 , few min's step 3 and step 4
Then after 10 min of learning with tha A/C on I downstepped in thesame way. Onestep every few minutes. You notice the engine picking up idle after each step up or step down. I have no clue wether it helped the A/C problem. i'll check if it did and let you know.

Neal - Glad to hear you your happy with the PFC. I've had mine for a few years but just run stock maps. What are your plans?? if you really want to tune it, you should get the Datalogit. I still hope to one day...
One sidenote, I lent my commander out to friend once, funny how I missed it, Ha.... it's an eye opener when you watch the air and water temps rise!

It's interesting how everyone's cars acts differently. I have never had AC problems, but I have read how others have. One thing I have found with my PFC over time, it does not control my air pump. What I mean is, the magnetic clutch is engaged and disengaged at the wrong rpm. Had to use my stock ECU to pass emissions last year, seems am the only one with this engagement problem ...weird!

I checked the other day and with A/c on the engine revs up at step 1,2 and 4.

At step 3 rpm falls back to normal and fans stop working.

It doesn't bother me really. I only drive the car in the weekends or when wether is good (cold air, dry road ;-).

Hope it turns out ok for you
