New FD owner in the U.K.

Hello Ladies and gents,

I will be moving to England this January (Alconbury/Huntingdon area, specifically) and just thought I would drop by to say hello and introduce myself.

On for the goods, I will be bringing my (US Model) '94 VR touring along with me. Would love to touch base with some of the current FD owners in Britain to see what the scene is like. Any tips or hints to keep in mind before I get there?? My car is currently pretty stock, but I plan on modifying it quite a bit before I ship it over. What are the restrictions in the UK like on free flowing exhaust? I know I will need rear fog lights, but I plan on getting that done once the car arrives. Does anybody know of any good rotary specialists/tuners north of London? I dont think I will get a chance to tune my PFC before heading out, so I will need to try and find a reliable place after I arrive.

Anywho, just thought I would stop by and say hello.

Cheers,
Levi

Hello

Well, i suggest as much shopping and work being done back in states, since Europe is stupidly expensive on these things, compared to USA.

Thanks mate, Yeah.. I found one a little closer to home than yours was. Actually ended up paying quite a bit less, though the car was not nearly in as good of condition as yours was. Whatev.. **** happens, how did your sale end up going?

hIGGI:

Yeah, I figured about as much. I plan on having a nice pile of stuff in my garage for when I get home to put in it. Planning on replacing/upgrading with:
Fluidyne or Kono Radiator,
AST,
have Greddy SMIC otw,
Uprated intake, DP,
Free Flow Cat (if they are legal in the UK),
looking at getting a RB dual tip cat back,
Apex'i PFC w/Commander,
Probably a boost controller (Apex'i AVC-R),
Defi boost gauge (ofcourse),
new NGK plugs, fuel filter,
basic maint (all that jazz)

I figure I will have a couple weeks to a month to get this stuff all put in once I get back from the middle east.. It should be peachy, I'm not shooting for some 350hp+ road monster.. just one quick, reliable daily/weekend drive. Yeah.. I definately plan on getting all work done in the states though.. the exchange rate will kick my *** with a quickness otherwise...

Drop me an email on arty26we@yahoo.com when you get into the UK. Will be a pleasure to introduce you to the main builders and tuners in the UK.
Cheers,

John

Really??? So cat's are not required at all? Thats awsome news (I was going to buy a DP/MP straight through set, but also bring along a resonated mid-pipe incase)

I know of one other person up by Cambridge that has a LHD FD, I'm not sure how much longer he will be in the country, or any specs on his car (I am friends with a girl who works with him, she owns an RX-8), and have only spoken to her about it so far...

I was told that I would probably need silencers to get registered and drive around. Is this true for the common motorist?? or does it seem more likely to just apply to american military stationed in country?

Are there any good tuners north of London?? I don't think I will get a chance to have my PFC professionally tuned before I ship my car over (I don't know the least about tuning myself, so I am not going to try and tinker with it... yet)

Anyway, I am really excited about moving to England and seeing what the land has to offer. I appreciate you guys helping me with the info ^_^ I hope to run into you all out on the street!!

I suggest its maybe better to sell your car and buy another FD in UK. It will have the steering on the right side and its way cheaper then in the US. Actually, why dont you treat yourself with some TypeRS, RZ or Spirit-R while you're there ?

Thanks for the suggestion cruiser, I already thought of that though. The only problem with getting a 7 in England is that I will not be able to bring it back to the states with me =( or if I did, it would cost me an arm and a leg. In the end, financially, it just isnt worth it to me. Now granted, if I miraculously get 45G's tax free in the next three years I will definately consider it ^_^ but otherwise...
