Just a quick update on my car.
I was at the paintshop today, to bring a new rear bumper. The one I had given them first was bended, so now the project has some delay... My fault this time.
Anyway, the rest of the car was painted, and looking pretty good. It still needs to be polished to get rid of some small flaws, but should be really nice once that's done. The car was there without doors, rear hatch or hood, but still, it was good to see it back with some paint on it. Now the bumper is at their place, they will paint that one, together with the mirrors and then clearcoat the whole lot. Should make for a clean Mariah again.
I'm normally going to get it back on Friday, that's a week later then planned, but still good enough for me. At least they didn't wait 7.5 weeks to tell m they didn't like "these kind of cars" anyway...

Good luck with that paintjob......it seems like ages that you have been talking about it

And Kim, Bart, you too like Porsches ? So I'm not alone in this thread ? And indeed, 996 might be faster and more practical, but 993 is more classical. Some say that this is the last "true 911" Not much power, but you can always up the boost

It doesn't seem like ages, it is ages!!! It was in for a paintjob early november!!! Then they didn't do anything to the car for 7.5 weks, and I decided to get it back and seek someone else. During the last two hours it was there, they screwed up my preparation work by putting useless amounts of filler on the car, and scratching it, and breaking the rear wing etc... So o I had to do a lot of work again, but weather didn't allow much work. Finally I found a shop that wanted to do the job right, and asked the right price. They said they'd be ready last friday, but a problem occured with the bumper (my fault). The rest is ready for final polishing and looks the part. So on friday the car will FINALLY be ready!!! After over 4 months!!! I started to loose patience, and courage... Now all I need is two rear tires. Anotherimpossible task...

I will post pics, don't worry!!! They'll be here in about a week or so. I have to borrow someones digital camera, as I don't on one myself.
And the tires seem to become a serious problem. Someone promised Oliver that he could deliver them, but it seems he can't... so back to where I started... :-(

It's been a real disapointment. One day they tell me they have the tires.....then days go by, weeks... and they can't find any, then they finally admit they never had them. Mean while barts been very cool about the hole thing but gets no tires. It wasn't suppose to end like that. I'm glad to hear the paint job worked out and hope he can get some other tire combo to work.

Well Oliver, it's not your fault. I'm very tankful for all your efforts and help. It's a pitty that some people promise things they don't have, but that's not your mistake. I just hope I can get something to work cause I don't want to buy new wheels...

My current tires are (used to be ) Yokohama's. The AVS range, some of the best tires available. But the range has been narrowed a bit: 15 inch wheels aren't common anymore, so they deleted the 255 and 285 sizes. Putting me and all De Tomaso Pantera (285) owners in deep problems. The Pantera owners normally could go to 255 after the "normal" 285 was no longer made by any company. Wonder what these guys do nowadays... According to some website Dunlop makes 245/50/15's in the SP range. Could be a solution, but they'd be higher and actually the 255/45's are the limit.
When the car is loaded and tires hot (makes them much larger!!!) I sometimes have only 3-4mm between the fender and the tires. NOT a good idea
Anyway, Yoko's aren't around anymore, and others aren't either. A German tyre-seller advised me to write Pirelli and place an order. Then they wait until enough orders are in and re-run a production of the tires. This is also done by Dunlop and Michelin with whatever size they EVER made. But I guess you can allready see the money dripping off, can't you That'll be something like each tyre being worth more then the Rex...
I'm thinking about going to get the PLS rims narrowed, and put a 225 on it. That'll be piece of cake (three piece rims, plenty of sizes possible, and spare parts available) but EXPENSIVE...

Well, you could think about it this way: even if you manage to find this size now, what will happen in a year or two, when these tires become useless too ? I'd say go with a "normal" size, and be done with this issue once and for all........

You're right somehow, but since I don't use the Rex that much (5000km/year Max) the tires would keep me out of trouble for a while. Also, I'm unsure about the car's future, so buying new wheels now, and maybe going to some suspension conversion, using 5 lugs later would be stupid. On the other hand, I guess staying 4-lug will be cheaper and easier. So, who knows what happens...

In this case, I'd also try to find the cheapest solution.....Isn't there some sort of TireRack in Belgium to help you find this size ? Or a big warehouse with tires and rims ?

If bad comes to worse, then you can always go one or two sizes down, so that you can at least get the car on the road again.....

Well, the problem is, when I keep the rim, the next size would be 225, meaning a difference of 30mm... Not sure if it'll fit, safely. The next step up (which I don't want at all) would be 345 or something. That's what a Lamborghini Countach has at the rear (345/35/15). I wonder if these guys still find tires... Wouldn't really fit the rim, nor the car :-)

You are so funny!!! But, eh, If I was playing with Metallica, I would probable make engough money to buy a TT engine for the Mariah, and have Yokohama make me an ectra set of 255's! Or buy that car in the back
But still, that video made me put on a CD (not Metallica though, that'll be for later). The reason why I wear my hair this long, BTW is/are:
a) to **** of my mother-in-law
b) to **** of my boss
c) to give myself a really difficult time when I have tork under a car...
Hell, now I almost want to search fo my earrings Haven't been wearing those for ages... Teachers always *liked* those...
Anyway, next topic has therefor arrived: what music are you guys into?
I guess it ain't difficult to see my favourite style
But I have several likes...
As for favorite band, that'll be W.A.S.P.
And now you guys.

I used to have long hair like you do when i was in grammar-school, aged 12-15 years old, some teacher took me for beeing(No she didnt TAKE me) a girl because of my squeaky voice that wa changeing, thats it i thought and cut my hair. Ive been trying to get it back ever since but its just not working, allmost like when it groms down my neck it draws my forehead hair with it.

I like all kinds of music, from Michael Jackson over Ry Cooder just to end up with Korn, which is prolly my favorite band.
Other bands that i Love:
Metallica
Aerosmith
Creed
D.A.D.
Ac/Dc
Nirvana
you get the picture, anything with great guitars
BTW have you (Bart) noticed that your text has changed to NO LIFE

Hey, dont you have ADSL ? Why is it so slow ?

Man, I just ordered ADSL here in Bruxelles from Belgacom, and the package arrives today afternoon. I will finally be able to do some surfing from home.....

.....but if its so slow as you say it is, then I'm doomed

I'll only download upgrades, patches and drivers, and thats it.....
