12A carb problems

My fathers car has some strange problems... It has a stcok carb, but an RB exhaust (full SP setup) We have the emission-crap attached (still) but obviously the airpump has no-where to pump, so right now both outputs of the control valve are opened to the air.
The car did run ok earlier, but now doesn't really do well. With choke on, it works more or less, but at 3000rpm. Once warmed up, it stalls. I tried to turn the idlle speed up, but it doesn't help. I can't do anything by changing the mixture either.
Any ideas? Completely removing emmissions maybe? Dump the airpump?

nope, it does run, does fire etc. we even drove it. Ignition was first set on feeling, then tested with a timing light. It was less then 1° wrong, so pretty spot on
problems started after leaving the car a few weeks/months then installing the non-stock exhaust. Since the engine does run when cold, but stalls AFTER warming up, I suspect it being the mixture. You can keep it running by keeping the choke pulled, but that's not really comfortable driving is it? And then it does run at aprox. 3000rpm.

While it is running can you hear it sucking air from anywhere? It sounds like there may be a line not connected somewhere.

I must say that it looks like if you have a air leek...
Check all the vaccum connections at the intake.
Have the intake been off the car??? Seals??
I don't know if you can buy "startgas" in Belgium?? Do you know what I'm talking about? Ether on a spraybootle!

If you can buy it?? Bye one, try to spray it on all the tubes and seal/packing areas.
If you have a leak, the idle will rice when the "spray" hits the leak.

But don't forget!!! It do catch fire easily... extinguisher should be keept close to the car!

that's one dagerous tip guys! it's the one thing I was always told NOT to do... but indeed, I think there might be an air leak too. I'll check on saturday, and see what can be done.

there you have you massive airleak.

take of the output of the control valve to the manifold and make a coverplate for it.
Capping off the outputs (inputs) wil not work.

The day I'll be driving German cars I can be considered real old...
Anyway, problem solved, ACV blocked off. Stupid clutch was almost impossible to bleed though: full of air! Don't really understand, but it took us an hour or so to get the thing working properly, every time we thought it was ok, the pedal got "weak" after a few moments again.
Anyway, it's fine now, and we took it for a quick spin around the block. It's pulling really strong, for a 12A with just a RB exhaust system. It needs proper fine-tuning, as it's running a bit rich, but that's work for the dealer. It's going to be on the road in March, ready for summer. Good to be driving a Seven again, even if it is my fathers
