I heard that you need to match years and that CA ecu are different.

It depends on whats been done to the ECU. I had a '94 cali ecu in my '93 non-cali rex, but it worked perfectly because all of the smog chips had been pulled out. Never had check engine lights, or anything.

I don't believe that a 92/93 ecu will work in a 94. A stock 92/93 ECU will definetley go into limp mode. I've done it.

When I bought my M2 upgrade I asked if I could do it on another ECU I got the impression from Brian that they didn't change the smog stuff - that it needs to work before mod.

My info could be wrong, but if you go for it, make sure you can return it! You'll know the first time you step on the gas hard. If it jumps into limp mode you have a problem - otherwise you should be OK.

The pinout on the 93, 94 and 95s are all the same with the ECU. The ECUs have small differences in fuel cut and other things that do not make them incompatible.

I ran a 93 M2 ECU in my 94 for 3 months and then sold it to a guy with a 95. I sold my stock 94 ECU to a guy with a 93. All cars ran great. I never threw a code with the different ECU and neither did my friend with the 95.

I have a 94 Cal car, and I'm running a 93 non-Cal M2 stage III. Works fine.
