Tips & Tricks for Wire Harness Running
Tips & Tricks for Wire Harness Running
I want to have everyone post their experiences in running / routing and connecting up a new harness from a Standalone.
- How did you plan out the routing?
- How did you run the wires?
- Any tips for tucking the wires out of sight?
- What materials (zip ties, lacing cord, harness wrap, shrink wrap, etc...)did you have luck with?
- What materials were poor?
- What stands up to the heat and what does not?
- Good retailers for materials, injector connectors, weatherpack connectors?
- What is a good place to mount the ECU, what is a Bad place?
So, post here for all your tips and tricks.
Thanks,

I haven't installed my Haltech yet.....but I have used this cable covering before.
I used this stuff to cover the harness for my DIY WB02 and it has held up for two years!
And that is the part of the harness that runs to my downpipe.

Makes it look really professional.
Also, I bought this box of heat shrink. I think I am set for life on heat shrink.

I've been using the heat shrink but glad i found this as my haltech will arrive shortly
Wire everything and TEST to make sure the engine fires up and runs fine BEFORE going through your final wire installation.
I used to burn through 100-count bags of 4" and 6" plastic wire ties like they were going out of style, cause I kept cutting them off to readjust the wiring.
Now I use cheap-*** electrical tape - you know the ones that are like 10 rolls for $1.00 - I cut 2" to 4" lengths and temporarily tape up the wiring before the final install.
My final installs are typically wire ties every 10" + plastic corrugated, split wire loom.
