megasquirt or a sds for fuel

ok what do you guys think shoud i go with the megasquirt or the sds. i have heard the the megasquirt is crap but havent heard anything about the sds. this is going to be for fuel only with the stock comp taking care of ignition. I will have a lot of time to complete the job. I think that i am leaning towards the megasquirt but any help would be appreciated. Any addvantages and dissadvantages would be great.

I've been looking at this alot, don't know where you heard that from. Yea it's a kit you have to build but I think that's the only drawback. There are alot of people on the MSEFI board that can help you through any problem. Right now a handfull of us are doing the install in RX-7's and many have done it over the last several years.

Megasquirt has many, many excellent features and the price is great--Hell it even has built in electronic boost control (EBC alone are in the $300+ range). And just recently the full rotary ignition setup was released, total control over leading and trailing spark.

My plan is to install the MS in a stock ECU case and use the stock harness. Including LC-1 wideband O2, EGT sensor, MS stimulator, the whole setup will be under $600, without the extras under $300.

I'm getting 17 mpg right now, 70% highway miles, if I can eek out 4 mpg better it will pay for itself in 2 years--at tuesdays $2.49/gallon price.

--->If you like DIY type projects and can learn electronics then Megasquirt is a valid option.

--->If you want drop-in plug-and-play, then pay more and get the aftermarket ECU.

BTW, SDS looks expensive--$841 for fuel only--I'd look at a Microtech or Haltech if you want an aftermarket ECU.

The "problem" with *either* system is the lack of resolution.
You find this out when you start comparing with other entry-level stand-alone EMS brands.

With the megasquirt the map/rpm bins are selectable versus fixed. So that may help compensate for the lack of resolution on drivability depending on how massive an injector you are working with. The SDS didn't do injector staging last I looked at the specs.
