greddy piggy back manangement?

now i have a friend who has a 10th aniversery tII and he has a greddy piggy back controller. he has about 170,000 miles on a motor that has never been rebuilt. he knows a lot about rotaries. he said that there is no point in buying these expensive ecu's for 1000 when you can just get these for like 200. what do you guys think about this. ive never heard of someone using the greddy piggy back besides him.

1) He's ignorant on what aftermarket EMS can do.
2) He's going to blow his motor soon.

Exactly, why pay over $1,000 for ignition control, additional fuel injector control, boost control, acceleration enrichment control, electric fan control, idle control, closed loop control, auxiliary control (anti-lag, water injection, OMP, N20, etc.), injector staging control, rev limiter, turbo timer, and a full set of engine monitor outputs when you can get a ghetto fuel controller that still uses the pathetic stock 1980's technology ECU for only $300? Besides, the whole 5 rpm settings of the E-Manage are probably much better than the 1024 resolution of the Haltech E11 or Wolf 3D. It makes you wonder why the professional racers waste $4,000-$10,000 on a Motec EMS. They must be idiots.

Seriously, though, a standalone EMS is a very advanced component that needs to be tuned by a professional, and the installation (or initial setup) isn't all that easy for newbies. Lower-end items like the E-Manage or performance chips do have their own market, as not everybody is a professional engine tuner, and not everybody wants to pay a lot of money for the EMS and professional tuning, despite the advantages. Your friend is probably better off with the E-Manage.
