fuel controller vs. stand alone
whats the difference between a stand alone computer(ex. power fc) and a fuel controller(ex. super afc). im thinking about only lightly modding my FD(around 300-350 rwhp). please list the advantage and disadvantage of both. thanks!
The power fc replaces the stock ecu, as is it controls the ignition timing, fuel maps, accessories (A/C, sort of...
), and all the corrections to the ignition/fuel maps due to air/water/fuel temps. The ignition and fuel maps are 20x20 resolution. It also allows higher boost than stock (and in fact, can act as a boost controller).
The S-AFC has extremely poor resolution, does not adjust ignition timing, and does not have any correction factors for air/water/fuel temps. Also, it does not allow higher boost than stock, which makes it near worthless IMO. In other words, it's not suitable to run on an FD.
If you don't want to deal with the expense and difficulty tuning the PFC, just get a Pettit or M2 ecu. The S-AFC (or other piggyback fuel adders) just doesn't cut it for the FD.
