factory ignition w/ no ECU??

i'd like to ditch all the FI stuff and install a carb. i have an 86 NA motor that never ran right in a project car. i'd like to get working on it again. can i use the factory ignition w/o the ECU? i'd like to clean out as many wires as possible, but don't know what's necessary and what can go.
when i say project car, i mean i transplanted the drivetrain to an MG. i tried to keep everything as stock as possible, but something isn't right w/ the wiring. it'll start but it runs like crap.

u can use the dizzy from a 1g. now i could be wrong but i think the cas provides the signal and the ecu determines when/which to fire.
