EMS with MSD
EMS with MSD
I'm alittle confused on this one, could someone help me with this. If I want to install a haltech, and a MSD or a Microtech and a MSD wouldn't they conflict?.... and how in the hell do you wire those together?
Please correct me if I'm wrong but this is how I understand everything going together:
Stock:
engine---wiring harness---- plugs into the ECU
EMS (piggy back):
engine---wiring---ems----ecu
EMS stand alone:
engine----wiring----EMS
EMS with MSD piggyback?:
engine---wiring---OMG wtf happens next!?
EMS with MSD standalone?:
engine---wiring---MSD----EMS????
I'm about to buy a EMS in a few weeks, and pretty much both of them are even, Haltech vs. MircoTech. But I want the easiest one to work with because I'm adding MSD coils, and iginition spark pack at the same time. With the haltech being piggyback, and the Mirotech being standalone I think I'm gonna lean towards the Mircotech, despite its drawbacks performance wise.
if adding MSD will be easier

Uh. what Haltech model are you looking at?
The E6X and E11 models are not piggy-back types.
I dunno about the Microtech, but there are two ways to installing the MSD with the Haltech. If you are using the stock ignitor(s), the MSD installs as usually with the stock ECU. If you are nixing the ignitor(s), you need to get one MSD per channel and change some settings on the Haltech and wire EMS -> MSD -> coils.

ok thank you, the info I got was wrong then, I can use the stock ignitors with a haltech and MSD with not configurations on the haltech right?
and if I wanted to use MSD ignitors with the MSD 6AL then I would need 4 MSD 6ALs? (one for each ignitor)
Chances are I'll go with the Haltech because the shop that is gonna tune it had used haltech in the past, but hasn't ever seen a Microtech unit.
Thanks

If you're willing to buy 3 or 4 MSD boxes, then you can ignore the ignitors and run them straight off the Haltech into the MSD boxes.
You'll need 3 or 4 aftermarket (MSD?) coils though to match up with the MSD CDI boxes.

holy crap thats gonna be expensive.... ok so the best bang for my buck then would be to get a Haltech and a MSD ignition box, and use the stock coils?
How do the stock coils hold up to a MSD ignition box?
