Comparing Autronic SM2 and SM4
Autronic Guys,
I'm looking at getting a new ECU for my FC drag/street project, and it looks like I'm going to go with Autronic. I'm having trouble making an informed decision on whether or not to go with the SM2 or SM4.
I'm leaning towards the SM2 (based on feedback I've gotten from people who have used the SM2 and SM4), since it's a mature product and has been well tested. My concern is that by going with the SM2, I'll miss out on support/feature additions in the future, as the SM4 is newer.
My question to you guys is this: who here has setup/run an SM4 and been happy with it? If you've used an SM2 as well, do you suggest I go with an SM4 instead? I'm not scared of setup complexity or having to learn/test. What I'm mainly concerned about are hardware problems, and firmware/tuning software bugs.
The application is a drag/street oriented S4 TII FC.
Thanks.

The sm2 has traction control and that is the only reason you should even consider it over a sm4. There is only one rotary running on sm4 that I know of, and with great results. I am about to have another one going in a few days. The sm4 is not a beginner ecu it is a very advanced system but in turn is very flexible and may be availible with traction control in the future. Just go to www.autronic.com and compare the features.
I will be switching my fc over to an sm4 and r500 cdi this winter. I'm going for 700+whp with a 13b.

I guess the hospital is accually in galita? or something like that... Yes it will be running on gasoline, the r500 is an excellent unit but be very carful checking for spark, cuz if you get shocked by it you probably wont live through it! The split timing is fully mapable just like a base ignition map as well as the injector staging based on load and rpm's. This is more accurate and adjustible than 90% of the other systems availible. I would choose the sm4 over any other system on the market today, and Im not just saying that because I sell them but it is the reason I sell them...
