anybody done a custom wiring harness? any exp advice?

has anybody bought a universal wiring harness from a place such as painless wiring and used it on their FC? i was debating on if i should order this with my ecu and do it all at once, i would assume i could still run it off the cpu so i could have blinkers, hazards, brake lights and such, the kit i was looking at was this

18-CIRCUIT UNIVERSAL HARNESS
GM-KEYED STEERING COLUMN
#10201 - The 18-Circuit kit allows you to add accessories to the basic wiring such as power windows, door locks, stereo, etc. This kit includes GM (column mounted) ignition switch plugs and a GM (column mounted) turn signal switch plug pre-terminated and ready to install. Also has pre-wired plugs for headlights and the dimmer switch.

you can do it, it would be very time consuming and errors would be extremely annoying.

if you decided to go this rount, take time and write or draw our where every single wire goes. So you can keep from running extra wires than needed. take note of how the factory has the fuses set up and what they run. Im assuming your wanting to replace all the old factory harnesses. Its pretty common place for FSM and the actually wiring to be different so as your removing it take notes and or pictures. If all else fails pm me

Ive done something like this with my FD, removed pretty much everything I dident need out of my harnesses when I did my haltech install.

you should have no problem keeping all your stock connectors and just hooking up this harness.

Good luck .

i figured it would work just fine, its just gonna be a pain on how to configure the splices and how it all branches out but i have about a month to take it slow waiting on the rest of my parts to get here. i just want brand new everything and no old crappy harnesses on it. guess im to much of a perfectionist for my own good

I am plannig to do the same, I just bought my first FC and everything stops working. I'm aware of the FC's electrical problems and it seems I would be happier with brand new harness and ecu. Before I get myself into this mess just want to know how the project turned out.

Thanks.

I've wired up a couple FCs from the ground up. It's a pain, but it's not that bad. There are a bunch of improvements you can make over the factory systems.
