AEM EMS...thoughts...feelings....questions....

looking into getting the aem ems for my 93 fd. i know whit the micro tech it does not control the oil squirters for the engine (thus the premix) ....does the aem control them? does it eliminate fuel cut? does it get rid of the 3k rpm hesitation?

any one have one? how do you like it?

Yeah, it's way too complicated to use and comes with a **** base map. What's wrong with the PFC?

dont have the pfc....sold it and got a aic. no one around me said or wanted to try to tune the pfc. i have a friend that tunes the aem ems with his eyes closed. so im not worried about tuning it from the base map..just found a deal that i cant pass up....future planning for my single setup. plus i figure its better than a stock ecu.

you wouldnt happen to have any answers for my questions abouve would you?

Yes, but does your friend tune rotaries on a regular basis?

Yes, the AEM can control the OMP so you don't need to premix. It says in your sig you're selling your car.....

PM hyperite. He ended up tuning his own (since no one had a clue...) and did quite a nice job. I know that he occasionally has issues with startup, but he has his running quite well and he flogs the crap out of his with no problems. He's had his for some time...at least 4 years since I've known him.

My startup issues are unrelated to the AEM, as they existed before I got it. Yes it controls the OMP. It CAN eliminate fuel cut, but I think you should understand what fuel cut does, first. And yes, the 3K hesitation is gone, unless of course you program it in.

After all these years I still don't understand why people submit those types of questions to the internet peanut gallery rather than simply asking their local pro.

because the local pro is busy at work and the local pro has a life as well. i figured being an internet forum (place people go to ask questions because someone might know) I would be able to ask and get some sort of decent answer with having to bother my friend/tuner.

im also having this dilema.. currently there is a microtech lt8 in my single turbo car.. all it really does is control fuel and is basically a piggy back.. the tuning shop ive talked with is really good at tuning with the aem but the best price i can get the aem for is 1480 and i can get a power fc for 750. I doubt ill ever aim for making my car some 8 second drag car or even a road track beast. Just a good looking 450hp daily driver that is reliable. Is the aem overkill or is it really worth the extra 700 bucks. The tuner did say he could tune it quicker on the dyno with the aem which might save another 100 to 200 dollars. Since Im relatively new to the whole rotary scene I would never attempt to make adjustments myself on the road which seems easier with the power fc. Any suggestions from those with both systems are greatly appreciated.

first off, i see your post is 3 weeks old but thought i'd respond anyway.

given your goals, the Power FC is the best choice for you. any modest savings on the initial setup, if actually realized, will have to offset against a much much user- friendly relationship going forward into the future.

the AEM EMS on paper promises much more than the Power FC. the problem is that there has yet to develop a significant number of satisfied users within the fd community. there has developed a significant number of disatisfied former users. this may or may not have anything to do with the AEM EMS itself. the AEM has developed a satisfied constituency among other makes.

given your hp goals, 450, the Power FC will work fine. you will need a Datalogit eventually if you are going to be making 450. that's alot of hp BTW. it is also easily attainable w the right components.

just a final comment: do NOT shortsell the Power FC. used w the Datalogit it has immense tuning capabilities. you would also be joining the largest FD EMS community w literally everything you need to know already in the archives.

simple to tune, simple to live with.

good luck,

howard coleman
