What're you non-rotary guys doing for power steering?

Have a three port rack in my FC currently, and trying to hook up the power steering pump from the KA to the rack. However, the three port rack has a cooling line and two high pressure lines. Can you simply block off one of the high pressure lines and the cooling line and run the single high pressure line to the pump?

you can block one. I think one is for high flow while at lower rpm. I dont know which one it is. but if you dont have it plugged in it stays closed. I just made a new mount for my 13bt pump so it mounts to the 302 I run. It sux but works.

That's what I was thinking. I'll probably block the low rpm line for now, I'm usually not at low rpms much haha.

What to do about the cooling line? It's the port at the top of the rack, right where the steering shaft goes into the rack.

Rear hole is return, Middle hole is pressure, and Forward hole gets plugged.

Awesome! Can't wait to get it together. How much pressure is in the return line? Would hose clamps be sufficient for it? The KA power steering reservoir uses hose clamps, theres no threaded fitting except for the high pressure line

the return is considered low pressure, so yea regular hose clamps are fine.

for my 2.3 swap in my fc i just blocked off one port and ran to other 2 the problem im having is its running too high of pressure but you can reduce the pressure with cutting the internal spring in the pump. The shop i got my lines at had issues though with getting a fitting to work in the rack since the threads are so recessed in the rack

What 2.3L engine did you go with? I don't think the KA ps pump cranks out a whole lot of pressure

I run a 3 port on my setup. the bottom line is plugged and the other 2 are used.

the lower pressure return is plumbed to a setrab cooler.

once i got my pressures down and my cooling sorted i stopped blowing up steering racks and now it works awesome!

keep the pressure under 1200psi and you should be ok. if you have a KRC pump i'd suggest getting their #4 flow valve.

Just looked it up and the s14 power steering pump that I currently have puts out 1300 psi, so I'll switch to a s13 ps pump which only cranks out 1100 psi. Thanks for the info!

Pretty sure the line to the cooler is M16x1.5, Im in the middle of plumbing up a MR2 pump and just got to get a AN finning the High pressure line, would love to know what stevesimon used in that pic. Anybody know what MR2 pumps tend to put out on pressure, I know they have the abilty to be adjusted on the pump

For high pressure line replacement/build/whatever use hose and fittings rated to run at that kind of pressure.

I just spent like $150 on fittings, lines, rubber hose (low pressure) and cooler to retrofit my stuff. It's a drift car, it's custom swapped, it's not an rx7 but it's hydraulics so it still applies.

LOW PRESSURE: Hose clamps ok.

HIGH PRESSURE: Get lines and fittings rated to at 2000psi at least.

For like archive purposes, what size/pitch are those fittings on the rack side? I'm itching for FC number 3......

That's ghetto as ****. The bolt i mean. I see your high pressure line is machine crimped. weren't you working on a 20b car about 2 years ago?

High Pressure line is 12x1.15, low pressure line 16x1.5. Brought my rack down to bruces speed shop and made sure they had all the right stuff and then checked it on the rack right there. Would love to know where stevesimon got that an fitting for the high pressure line, i went with bango to an but would have preferred an off the rack.
