WA stock wheels. which tires? stock hp, skinnier tires?

Which tires to run on a mostly stock 12a, rat nest removed, nikki stripped, custom header, and free flowing exhaust, only a glass pack, and an ebay rice muffler at the rear.?.?.?.?

Is skinny better? Or will it be too little traction to hold a decent drift? I am assuming with stock wheels, and stock engine, that we will be a lil shy on hp to spin 215's or bigger.

Who's drifting mostly stock engine, on which size tires? Lil run here and there has seem smooth with 185's... but we're hittin the track tomorrow, and don't wanna just lose it on every corner.

Any input from expeerienced drifters, to us amatuers would be GREATLY appreciated!!

What kind of pressures were you running?

We ran 36 psi on 32 psi tires.... the fronts are 205's, and we had them maxed out, sittin at 44.... this was our first day at the track. Ameri cam posted one of his "go pro" videos on youtube. Us having matching sa's out there mixed up with 2 newer rx7's, 19 240's, 1 skyline, and a mustang was pretty cool.

We need better steering for sure. I ordered a smaller steering wheel, and plan to stiffen the rear, transitions were rough! I also plan on redrilling inward for slight front camber a little.

I had the luxury of a formula drift pro-am driver watching, riding shot gun, and even drifting my car all morning in this drift "class".... he had amazing insight, mechanical and technique. After my first run, he jumped in and threw a handful of pointers my way, and 2 runs later I was able to execute everything he recommended.

I wouldn't run anything skinnier than a 205 on front. 44 psi seems a little much bu if it works for you **** it. And **** what the tire says max pressure should be. I'm running 205 50s with 70psi rear 28 in front. Lol need to find some 205 40 and 215 40 for some 17s.

I like the stock 13's, seems rubber is a dime a dozen. As far as psi, we are amatuer here! So after hearing we need "more steering, and front traction". Then hearing your input, I will for sure be dropping the front pressure.... that may have contributed to some of yesterdays follies.... but over all I think we did great.....

That's cool. I'm still a noob too. I'm still NA myself. S5 with big street port and other goodies. Blown kei office coilovers bucket seat steering wheel and tucked engine harness. Simple *** setup. Terrible setup lol. Some say 17s are too big but **** it lol. I just want to drive and look cool. But yeah I'm new so my opinion doesn't mean dick but I'd lower the front pressure for sure.

I'm thinkin street port + goodies = the power needed to turn 17's... don't think my home made header / exhaust would be enough to consistently spin them... lol lol ..... we have a few extra 12a's layin around, I wanna port one but have yet to find a template. I think I need to tear one apart before ordering seals/gaskets/template.... only because I don't know the rotary's at all yet.... not sure if bearings or whatever else may be needed... we'll cross that bring after Xmas passes...

Why not run 15s instead of 17s? Rubber still will be dirt cheap, wheels will probably weigh less than 17s, and they will look better.

13's, stock.
17's, look real good.
Both easy to get and seem cheaper than 15's....

My buddy runs used 15s and 16s on his E36 coupe and he did not buy a single tire for the 2012 season... he was able to grab everything he needed from local shop's tire piles. I'd consider that pretty cheap. Might be different in your area, so just run what ever is cheap and easy to get!

running wider low pressure sticky tires up front, like a sumitomo or hankook has always been what I prefer but that's with low hp corollas

then get Shitty federals cold fill them to like 70 psi and also em on the back... was good for 3rd gear runs with 90HP so should work pretty fine with a rotary of stock to near stock pier

Next run is the 29th, I'll lower the pressure up front, not sure why I thought to run high pressure... amatuer mistake... great input!

lower pressure makes the tire give more, generally better gripping that way and the opposite goes for high pressure...

Just replaced the mirror... since someone put a cone in my perfect line and smashed it off... and the smaller steering wheel and adapter just went on... I'll be doing the suspension and wheel pressure adjustments later this week, since I gotta have my shop cleared out... my brothers(ameri cam) 12a seized on him yesterday! Looks like rebuild time this weekend....

If you're rebuilding just buy Everything new. All the internal **** is cheap compared to what your going to end up spending on the car anyways. Do it right. Will you be rebuilding yourself?

He is talking about porting too. Today we managed to pull the header and plugs.... we found 1 apex seal snappded.... the rest looked decent. We will see how far he gets this weekend since 0 parts are available locally....

Keep me posted. I want to build a mild 12a. I'd like to see some different setups.
