This build seems to be dragging out forever. I just want it to be done so I can drive it again! I've really got no one to blame but myself (and my day job) for the slow pace
2012 -
2013* - Paint to follow soon
*note- the aero is cracked and haggard (fixing that up before paint)
made up some dirt cheap straight pipes, because mufflers and eardrums are for squares!
Here's a mock up photo from one side. I ended up adding a bend in there to give me some more CV boot to hot exhaust clearance and did the same for the other side.
Built a simple front bash bar.
I'll be making one for the rear shortly.
Swapped the coil overs with my other RX7 and took the car off jack stands and put on some wheels and tires to check fender clearance and the alignment (eventually)
I'm missing a piece of the rear fender sheet metal that the fiberglass pieces won't cover that needs to be welded back on (cut a set out of a shell bound for the crusher)
and I painted the roll cage purple... because you can't have a drift car without an obnoxious color scheme!

I stripped the rear body harness out... keeping only the tail light circuit.
Start
Spread-em
Discard
Keep
and finished painting the interior and started reassembly. I'm really close to being ready to drift next weekend with Clubloose and then get it broken back down for exterior paint.
Finished
And now I find out if a white floor is a bad choice for a race car

Thanks man! I'm really glad I ditched the tri-point widebody and fc2000 front end this year... even though it means I'm still building and not drifting....
BUT, I finally got the car out for it's first road test this year. Transmission rebuild seems like it was a success... it shifts like new.
Ride height and alignment need to be sorted out but otherwise she's ready to rock.
Built a rear bash bar for it today
Cut some plates from 1/8" steel plate and utilized some factory mounting holes
Added a couple of bends to some 1.5" tube
Notched some things
and then welded it all together

Finished up some wiring changes, relocated the power window controls to the center console along with a battery cut-off switch.
and drove the dump rig to work today... rear over fenders rub since the tires are super tall (245/45/18)
I'm planning on prepping it for paint this weekend and then letting Maaco fog on some color in the next few weeks.

I'm planning on filling dings, sanding/scuffing, and masking the car and then towing it down to the 1-day place to spray the color. I have the equipment to paint it at my parent's house but by the time I tow the car there and buy the materials I wouldn't be saving any money and I'd be giving up one of my weekends.

I finished up all the body work... I think I'm done with trying to patch together someone else's used and broken aero in the future though... what a hassle.
I'm dropping it off at Maaco tomorrow on my way to work for a coat of color on the cheap... Hope it works out. The color is going to be an OEM Porsche Green.

I wasn't sure how I felt about the front end on the first page, but that's gone I see. This car is sweet, and I didn't envy you one bit during the tranny rebuild. That gave me a headache reading it. Keep it up.
