Power Steering or No power steering

Power Steering or No power steering
I just got back from a local event, I have a power rack that was just plugged up. I was pretty much forcing/fighting steer lock to get it going. The guys were telling me to go get Power Steering back; but really isn't an option for me anymore as I have a v-mount and it takes alot of room.
Is anybody looping the lines or manual rack having the same problem?

I did the manual rack conversion. It is better than a plugged rack by quite a margin. I will say that I want my Power steering back though. It is not bad when driving but if I change to a friends car or something.....WoW its so easy, almost like a vacation...LOL
I don't see why a V mount setup would interfere with your PWS though.

Cold pipes usually have to either snake around the power steering, or if they are more direct you need to re(move) it.
I have power steering and big ol' V-mount. So does Justin (BoostinMyS5).
You need to get a 1st Gen GSL-SE power steering bracket. You need to trim it to fit an FC PS pump. This places the pump down low. You need to get another main crank pulley, and 3 crank pully spacers and flip it around and stack the pacers and mount it to the front of the existing crank pulley. And it lines up perfectly with the pulley from the FC PS pump AND the GSL-SE tensioner pully on the bracket.
Then walk into Autozone and get a belt that fits the measurement you pulled once everything is mounted. Viola.

My belt wasn't on in this pic, and my engine bay is a MESS, but it was right after a rebuild, just getting it running again. Just look at the PS placement, don't judge me on anything else!

nice setup. I never thought about using a GSl pws bracket. That lets the piping come right where it needs too.
I did a car with that sort of piping on a front mount and that bracket would have helped out a lot.

I converted to a manual rack when my PS rack blew. It sucked for the first 2 weeks but now I love it. Some times I will need to make that extra turn of the wheel but generally I get along with it.
I wouldn't even bother with a depowered rack. It would just be too hard unless you modified it to allow fluid movement internally.

You have to properly depower the rack by disassemling it and taking all the seals out and lubing it with grease in the proper amount.
A true manual rack is still easier to turn when sitting still but it is more turns lock to lock.

with more steering input by using power steering ucan recover more resposivly therefore you can aggresivly create more SICK angle and countersteer it quick enough. Man I need a PS rack so bad.... I have the Pump and lines already myfriends gave me, but still need a rack to convert to...The only time ican realy drift crazy since ihave no PS is in the rain[ez transfer], but when its dry its harder to swang becuase low steering input and big wheels in the front just makes it more harder..

Quick question and suggestion that you guys may be able to correct me with. How much caster are you running on your car with no power steering mate? The only time I drifted my FD before it blew I had an electric PS setup (from a small hatchback) which was hard work but after driving s13s and skylines for the last 8mths I realised a lot of it was to do with having very little caster on my FD so the wheel wouldn't centralise all that quickly and I'd have to push it back around instead of just letting go. On the nissans I can drive very light fingered and only really need to yank the wheel if I go wrong and need to correct. I'm hoping I'll be able to do the same on the FD if i add some more caster. I'm running around 5-7 degrees on the skyline so will probably start with that and see how it feels. Having too much caster made the steering feel lumpy and it seemed to 'sit' on lock which was quite strange, but overall annoying. Anyhow wondered what any of you thought?

I ran a PS rack without the power part, I drained all the fluid and greased it up, and it was easy to turn with my larger momo wheel I had on the car. the extra few MM of the wheel diameter made it work as well as it did I think.

I dont have p/s.. i agree drifting with it would be much better.. but when it comes to rotary i just want to let the engine be.. no bullshit around it or any stress off the pully lol...the p/s in all my friends 240's always **** up after a run too.. it boils out or somehting lol..
so im juust like eh.. dont wana deal with it
