Opinoins on clutches wanted.

I just toasted my Pineappale clutch so it's time to upgrade. I need some suggestions for clutches under 700. I see Ebay has a lot of name brand stuff like ACT for around 500 shipped but I'm never really sure it's what it says it is so I'd prefer to buy from a known good website/company.

i have a $100 clutch net 6 puck disc i got from a friend who bought it off ebay for like $130.
i seriously love it. definitely not a twin disc, but with a good pressure plate it's pretty damn good for under $300.

i'd look into getting a 6puck sprung disc (maybe un-sprung is better, im definitely no clutch expert) and getting an Exedy OEM replacement pressure plate, or an upgraded one if you want to save a little. if not then ACT, EXEDY, Clutch Masters, Competition Clutch are all good companies.

It will definately be sprung. I had 2 unsprung 6 pucks in my integra and EG and while they worked great at the track they sucked on the street. Plus I'd like to keep the shock of all my clutch kicking from destroying everything else for just a little bit longer.

130 bucks, that's music to my ears! What pressure plate are you using?

I ran the Spec stage 2 for a long time. It was great.
I eventually broke the rivets on the center pack after 3 years and a bunch of clutch kicks.

I'm currently running a Act street/strip and heavy pressure plate.

Feels great and holds my power(only 200rwtq)

As a side note on the act pp. The heavy will snap your pivot ball so grease it up before you put that pp in.

My Specs (2 and 3+) were always great. I blew engines before I wore out or had problems with the clutch.

It depends what you want out of a clutch.

Especially with drifting, depending on your style you will want a copper of organic clutch.

Basically an organic clutch will allow you to modulate the clutch - this can be useful for getting close to walls if you use it in a flat out style.

While a copper clutch is sort of like an on off switch, it makes clutch kits that much more aggressive. In addition, a copper clutch doesn't wear as quickly, but more likely will create hotspots on your flywheel.

I choose a copper clutch, ACT Pressure plate and 6 puck sprung. I like it.

X2 for Spec clutches. Mine is a stage 3 and seems to be doing the job nicely.

Can you explain this further? I prefer to use my steering wheel and throttle to get close to walls.... How does the type of clutch you have influence your wall distance? Is it a low power NA rotary thing?

Did the spec 2 and 3 act like on/off switches or did it have a gradual bite similiar to a stock clutch? My ACT's were both on/off with no real "in between" unless you like to chatter the crap out of your clutch. I assume because it was unsprung?

My spec 3+ is pretty much in or out. Don't get chatter. I like the way it grabs hard. But thats just me.

My 2 was smooth, the 3+ was a little harder and made a lot of noise. I am able to slip ANY clutch I have ever driven even a retarded unsprung 3 puck p-port.

Dunno. I just kick mine and flat shift. The only time i let mine slip is when i'm driving normal starting out in first....

Buckey, thanks for the info on clutchnet. Daniel was running an xtd 6 puck for a while. Not sure if he still rocks it or not. Said he dug it. Care to chime in?

i like act clutches, can't go wrong with exedy either. depends on your power level. my previous 240sx i put in a xtd ebay clutch and it slipped doing 3rd gear clutch kicks. i would not waste my time with one of those

I just got a ACT heavy duty street clutch, feels good, you should definitely be able to find something perfect for under 700.. and most likely, you wont find much difference between products at that price range, if you break in 200 or so miles, you should be good

This is a style Forrest **** likes to use. He uses the clutch to slow down rather than the brakes, Obviously this is only for closing into walls, as it allows you to keep going flat out (to keep wheels spinning) and use clutch to engage/disengage to slow wheel speed without losing the all important throttle sound.

i rarely modulate clutch.. it's either getting kicked or not. modulation wears it fast, plus it's very inconsistent to modulate it. people over analyze things...it's just drifting.

You'd glaze that **** over so fast........... Just thinking about dropping my transmission to fix something like that for driving in such a stupid manner makes me want to headbutt my windsheild in from the outside. I've heard of people slipping it in drag racing but drifting? Use the damn throttle, handbrake, foot brake, whatever. If i want to swing out more, i'm making sure i can go fast enough to keep momentum without spinning and throttle that **** up. This is n/a though. I've never slid with power where i can actually speed up substantially while drifting.

Envy.

Hey vosko, do you think the shitty pressure plates are the problem? Rumor has it they're just fancy painted oem ones with no increase in clamping force.
