yea i sometimes bump the front pressure up higher. no power steering feels way better with harder front tires lock to lock. the lower the pressure, obviously the harder it is to turn (normal driving anyways)
i think i usually do 50psi front though. never went higher. i only had 2 understeer issues with it that high and 1 was at Irwindale initiating it lagged up for a sec, and the other was my first qualifying run at XDC AZ where i ******* blew out full counter the wrong way like a noob.... lol

In my miata which is severly underpowered I've run anywhere from 55-75 COLD
55 is **** tires and 70ish is federals for most tracks. XDC layout I think i got down to ~60-65
Georges car has been all over the place we've run anywhere from
26 hot(Irwindale) to 65 hot (vegas) ((PS the looks you get at falken when you mention your pressures in that range are priceless))

Looking for front tire advice so I don't throw money at something that won't work. I have stock fenders rolled, 17x9 +19 up front with Supernow rackspacers/ tie rods. My car is fairly low, I rub on the top of the wheel well from time to time. Can I get away with a 235/40/17 up front or am i going to smash into the front/side/rear of the wheel well like crazy? The alternative would be 215/45/17, I'm just concerned the non-stretch of 235s might complicate **** up there.

im running 17x8.5 -6 and i was rubbing all over inside and out with a 205/50. wound up going with 30mm wide fenders and extended ball joints, now no rub. also going to move to a 215 45. i think youd be hard pressed to fit a 235 under there with your current setup

More rubber doesn't override better necessarily

^yeah it's a trade off.
You can get away with smaller tire if it's sticky rubber like the ones Pat said.
I've found 235/40/17 Fed 595's not too bad. I've got a 8 inch rim and 35offset so I rub inner control arms at stock lock. You may find yourself spacing the tire out more to clear with angle mods.
You also need to work on your suspension if your hitting upper rail up front. I raised my car 1 inch removed my preloading(for lowering) and stiffened my ksport kontrol pro's and can now grip race without any rubbing.

I have a question thats kinda related.
I'm going to be going with an 17x8.5 in front and I want to put a 235/40/17 Feddy on there. With my recent angle mods I have 50* of angle. What kind of offset should I be looking to run? I'm guessing something in the 0 to -? range.
This cell phone pic is with a 17x8 +10 225/45/17 and it rubs the rail before it gets to actual lock

i had 215/40/18 595ss up front the entire time my car was black. they were good. but i was never really aggressive with initiation because i was thinking they would slip up. they did push a few times, but FC's are cool and we don't really have that issue.
i'm running 235/40/17 Advan Neova AD07s now, and i can not get my car to understeer if i wanted to. sticky front tires are gangster, but with that being said the more grippy the front the less they'll scrub at angle and help save you from washing out of a spin. 215 ado8s would probably be as good as a 255 fedaral up front.
none of this matters though. get neovas, and you'll fall in love with them.

I run a 17x8 thats -10 offset w/ spacers and havent had any rubbing since switching to 225/40's...
I picked up a set of Nitto NT-05's for dirt in 235/40 for the front. Ive heard nothing but good stuff about them for grip driving from my mustang and STi buddies... 'cept 2 that are Die Hard Z1 Star Spec dudes. Ima give them a try and see if they grip as well as the Star Specs and hope that I don't rub with -10 backspacing.
Pulled my car out of the garage the other day with no spacers on the fronts...tried to turn and the **** locked up so quick it stalled the car and fouled my spark plug (NGK 10's in 30 degree weather on a cold motor suuuuuuuuuck).. Had to sit there with a little butane torch and heat my spark plugs. what a ******* pain in the ***.
Evan, I tried 225/45's before... that was what was on my car at ECB when I had those binding issues. theyre too tall. Theyre like half and inch taller than 235/40's. I used em to do a big burnout afterwards.

crude drawing to show the differences of spacers vs extended LCA/ball joint
top shows stock
center shows stock + spacer
bottom shows extended ball joint
as you can see, bottom still gets same arc as stock but actually achieves what spacers/low offsets try to do (beyond fitment at least)
