nismo_bill's drift build.
Hey all,
Ive decided to **** or get off the pot.. So Im going out on a limb and have decided to build a drift car. i hope to make atleast 1-2 events this year with it, then over the winter it will get an even more dedicated overhaul.
It will be a slowish build to start as i am waiting to get back to work.. unemployement only buys soo many parts and beer.. i should be back in a few weeks.
CAR: 1988 Mazda RX7 TII.
Bone stock, unmolested.
90k on the clock.
everything works and car runs very well. great compression
no leaks or burning of fluids.
PLAN:
to be pushing 250-300rwhp by the end of the summer
dumped on a set of coilovers (most likely godspeed to start)
toe elimination kit
prolly mod my own knuckles
build my own cage.
undecided on stripping the interior right now, but i plan on getting a good seat and harness soon. i want to build a 4 point cage ASAP, maybe tie in halo bar pillars and doors later.. or just do it all in one job.
PARTS SO FAR:
Bonez down pipe and test pipe
Godspeed aluminum radiator
underdrive pulleys
Clutch master and slave cylinder
new belts
oil pressure sending unit.
PARTS COMING (no particular order)
Rtek7 2.1
BNR stage 2 hybrid turbo
Innovative Wideband tuner
injectors
FMIC
Banzia emissions delete kit.
STAY TUNED!!
Bill
PS. How do I get bigger pickshorezz!!??

Just wondering why someone named "Nismo Bill" is rockin out an RX7 instead of a 240?
If I can make a small suggestion too. I see you have Front Mount intercooler listed. Have you given any thought to V-Mounting?

My first car was a 240.. Lol I went through he'll trying to get it.. I loved that car. I started having my name nismo_bill for every forum. Sadly I got rearended in a rain storm and the car was totaled. I went through 3 more of them, then the drift seen exploded, and prices for non rusted ones skyrocketed in MI. So I went to Mustangs and Trans Ams for a few years..
Yeah, I've looked into v-mounts. I'd prolly do something like that over the winter. I'm a Welder/Fabricator by trade so that's why I want to do a lot of stuff myself.

Dont hate!
So ive been stupid bored lately and i got these white face gauges for free. I like the stock colors but unless i go old school HKS, nothing will match them.. not a big deal. I really just wanted to jump in and stay motivated, so i went ahead with it.
I havent touched the engine or things like that until i give it a full tune up, im waiting till my good buddy MARVIN hooks me up with more cash. (unemployment robot) lol.
the white faces went over the stock ones and are indiglo. they can switch from green to blue, and have a dimmer switch.. I heard its how you get the ladies. It is in easy process if you take your time.
I wired it up into the cig lighter, and grounded it to a bolt. it comes on when the IGN is on, but can be shut off with the dimmer switch.
I'll put in a night shot after class tonight.

here is a shot of the gauges at night.
Also, i got my moon roof to open all the way! lol ive always loved how the FC's had such a ballin *** moonroof, they look even better when the car is sideways and smoke is pouring out of them.
I also scrapped up some pics of the Bonez down pipe and test pipe. i dont have an exhaust yet, because im not sure on what to get.. prolly something used as the car will most likely hit something..
aaand the Godspeed aluminum rad.

Drove it around today runs really well. Had no issue's didnt boost much, as im looking for bugs right now. Going to do the "60K tune up" this weekend. (if its not a **** show). Or i may wait till my emissions delete kit comes in. I also am going to go through and replace ALL vacuum hoses, seeing as they are almost 24 years old.

Stupid question. I have been considering removing the rats nest. but all im finding when i "search" is people complaining about ******* their **** up.
I want to drive this car every day, so i know complete removal of emissions and rats nest is prolly not a good idea.
so my question is, should i buy the block off plates? what should i take out, what should i keep?

Sorry for the lack if updates, I've been job hunting. With success I might add. I just go into a Fortune 500 company's fabrication department. It is going to be a great experience. As I will finally be working at a place where quality is more important than quantity. I'll be welding and building things for the medical field.
As far as the car, it has been having tanks of gas run through it for now. I don't need power at the moment. Once my taxes get here I'm buying a set of coilovers, and rear toe delete.

Rip everything out that you feel like. I have my EGR, BAC, MOP, secondary throttle plates, fuel pulsation dapener, ac and a bunch of other crap blocked off and removed. Air pump is gone. my na vdi is gone. I think i removed some other stuff too. The car just needs to be idled with my right foot until it warms up....then it holds at 700rpm all on it's own. All the vac stuff for the oil injection is gone too. I recommend the rats nest elim. Most people over think the "problems" it creates vs finding solutions.
You have a turbo car though so be careful what you choose to get rid of and mess with.
*Applause* We need more of that here.

Same here. I work 4 days a week, have every weekend off, make between 19-22 bucks an hour but it's working for someone else and i hate my job. Well, i dont hate it but i hate not having full control. I'm hoping if i bust my *** hard enough and my friends and I come together, we can start something proper so we dont have to work for "the man". Good luck. Just refuse to give up and stay focused and you can't go wrong!

Hey bro if you ever need "local" help you can hop on michiganrotaryclub.com website and get some info from those guys. We hold a lot of get togethers and work on everyones car at once. We are also having a road trip/cruise may 22nd. We are gonna have a nice scenic drive up to Grand Ledge then have a cookout and some fun. You should consider showing up. Love to meet new people. Anyways here are a few things I have done to my drift project suspension wise...
Tein Type RA coilovers (16 way adjustable in the rear)
DTSS Elims
RB adjustable rear sway bar end links (preload bar)
4 point roll cage with door bars (necessary for tracks around here)
Falken tires (model escapes my mind right now) 225/40/18 front, 245/40/18 rear
Also have a bunch of other stuff done for power as well.
Let me know if you need any help. Hit me up.
Peace,
~Andrew

Don't do godspeed at least do megan racing for 100 more, I had god speed before and that **** sucked, no joke after only a week the metal ring that goes between the spring and top hat had bent to **** and started making all kinds of noise, megans aren't the best but id choose them over god speed just my .02 and yes I've owned both and I'm not the only one who thinks they blow

ive heard mixed reviews for godspeed.. i would much rather run tein super drifts (ive used those on a s14) buut i get godspeed stuff foralmost nothing so thats my choice... i know they recently released a new coilover that is supposed to have fixed a bunch of issues that was happening on the last design.. its really a matter of budget.. you get what you pay for. as with anything

I'm running the TEIN Type RA's which are now the super drifts. Amazing suspension. You can get whatever you want out of these things. They will take a beating and keep on going I wouldn't go any other way for coilovers on my car. Have heard good things about both of the other mentioned setups.
