I gotta idea!!!

How about everybody that doesn't think RX7s are for drifting not even bother to come in the drifting forum. Why would you? are you looking for someone to convince you that RX7s are used also for drifting? Why do you keep doing this to yourselfs? Putting yourselfs through all this stress worrying if the drift guys are drifting or heeding your advise to not drift the grip only rx7. Just do yourself a favor and don't come in here. If your read this post you've come too far. Just turn around and go to the rest of the forum where you'll be happy and content. Your life will be less stressful and you'll thank me. Don't worry the guys drifting RX7s aren't plotting a take over of the RX7club so there's no need to check on what they are saying. Leave this forum or die! just kidding. Leave this forum to the guys discussing drifting and drift setups. So it can be more technical like the other forums and give back information to the community like the other forums.

For the record I think anything can be drifted. Even a FF car. At least I can do it if the car is setup correctly. Also for the record I don't care what other people think so don't bother convincing me of anything. I know what I've seen and done. There are plenty of witnesses at the scene of the crime and it's not a secret.

P.S. I love you all and think everyone should go out and slide their RX7 around a bit. It always makes me feel better!

The Drifting section was recently created a week ago at most, back then, members (including myself) were annoyed that drifting threads were clogging up the race techniques section. Now that drifting has it's own section, you guys should see a decrease in the amount of drift haters that come in here, one would hope.

BTW, you've seen a front wheel drive car go around a corner with equal slip rates between the front and the rear wheels? At least that's the technical definition of drifting, and it really can only be achieved on a FF car for a fraction of a second at a time. I've never seen it being sustained for longer than that before, maybe you have? I've seen plenty of FF cars sliding though.

I'm a drifting purist anyway, and don't really like seeing drifting for the sake of show. Now, if it's the fastest way around a specific corner, then I'm all for it.

Here's an easy way to tell if a car can truly drift or not. Drift a course with consecutive s-turns (about 4 or 5) that have a radius that get smaller and smaller and smaller connecting to a final increasing radius corner. If that car can't maintain its drift through the last section, it can't really drift now, can it?

TTT: Lay off the drifter, this is the drifting section and they can express their opinions here freely if they choose to.

I appreciate your posts as they do add to the threads you put them in. Whether people know it or not. I think this titanium guy my be self projecting on me. What do you think?

Nah, he's a friend of mine and he's not a fan of drifting.

He's got a habit of venting though.

My point on that consecutive corner post is that it's impossible to accelerate while sliding in an FF, as throttle straightens out your car.. But, most drift courses aren't laid out like that, so that lets FF's somewhat participate.

You are technically and theoretically correct when you get down to the actual meaning of drift but most guys might still argue that the FF car can be accelerating while the tail is in a slide and in their eyes this would be drifting. They would of course be wrong but the car would appear to be sliding still to the untrained eye. It's funny my brother in law has a pretty well prepped 92 Civic hatch. Well prepped for autocross anyways. Not your typical Civic with a bunch of power that is easily made on a Honda engine and no way to use it. It's what I call an anti-Honda Honda and is more along the lines of what Honda acheives with it's "Type-R" line. Which are all great and capable cars in the right hands. It only has 127 hp at the flywheel but it's got a 4.9 final drive, LSD, real coilovers, and a great set of 4 wheel disc on it. Car is setup pretty good for not ever being corner weighted. In any case it's really fun to drive. He brought it to the place we usually drift and a bunch of guys were telling him to slide it around and this and that. He's not into it he just came to watch and ride along with me. So anyways I'm like Arron can I try to slide you car a bit or what? and he says he doesn't care he just doesn't want to do it since he's not that great at it and he is obviously more use to stopping the car from sliding while pressed to it's limits. So I jump it let it warm up drive it around the area a bit and try to get the feel of his car. Tug the e-brake a couple times to see how it's adjusted and where it locks. Do a couple high speed grip turns to feel the tires out. I feel confident at this time to attempt some slides. So instead of just making a run and pulling the e-brake which anyone with two hands and feet can do I want to attempt a braking drift or some throttle lift oversteer which FF cars are great at. The first pass is a bit akward. Although the slide is maintained just about as far as most of the rwd cars there are capable of. (I should say the driver's are capable of) Next pass is much more balanced and I find the sweet spot in the steering rack where the car is just about to be lifted up as you transition from lock to lock. It's hard to describe but it's the best place in my opinion to have the steering angle at for drifting ff. It's like when you turn a cars steering form one end to the other and there's teh point in the steering that lifts the body a bit. That's the point I'm trying to find. Well I do the slide goes quite well and I decide to switch directions which in all honestly done easieatly with the handbrake at this point. I swings out I keep the throttle open (mostly) the LSD does it's job and the car continues the slide in the opposite direction. Basically it's not all real drifting. Technically. But it looks nice. Lots of the guys are amazed but what they don't know is half of what they are doing is technically drifting either. Drifting is more in the eye of the beholder then being based in the technical aspects of it's actual theory. This is how I veiw it anyways. I just do it to entertain myself. It's fun knowing something that appears to be so out of control is actually very much undercontrol. When my car is up and going I'll see if I can borrow a video camera of some kind so I can post some video. I don't have one so I will need to find one. In any case there is the BIG secret to the ff drift although I don't think it's a secret it's just how it works. Rwd is similar but in it's own way as well as awd. I unfortunetely have only got to slide a couple awds but they re very fun. It's hard to get someone to give you their keys to their STi when you already tell them you want to slide it around in the dirt. lol!

Yea, I've issued a general warning. Next flame gets an infraction. Enough of those, and you may just get banned. Report the post with the Exclamation Mark in a Triangle icon on the left side of a post or pm me the thread which a violation happened.

I'll take care of the rest.

Most of the flames started before Drifting section was created, so it should die down soon.

At least you don't have it bad as OEC, a bunch of rotary guys love to go in there, which is mainly V8 territory and start ****.

Haha!

BTW, what exactly qualifies as a flame? Are there any specific things to look for? Or is it just general trashtalking? Just curious.

trashtalking without merit, uncalled for insults.

If you're acting stupid, however, you deserved to be owned, that's where I draw the line between pwning and flaming.
