Formula Drift Professional Drifting Pro-Am Rule#3.3.4

Formula Drift Professional Drifting 2010 Pro-Am Supplemental Rules and Regulations

3.3.4 Front cross member and/or front or rear sub-frame Front and rear sub-frames and cross members must be stock and available on the exact model that is competing in Formula Drift. The subframe must also be mounted in the exact stock location, without being moved in any plane. Front subframes may only be modified to directly allow for oil pan / starter clearance and steering rack relocation.(the reason I would do it) The front subframe must retain intact on at least one major member on one face that spans the entire width of the subframe, thereby keeping the original dimensions of the subframe intact. Any other modifications, cutting, welding, strengthening, etc is not allowed.

How do you guys interpit this rule? I see it as this, but Im not too sure as to what XDC wants. Before I contact them I just want to see what you guys think.
example of one other one out there.

Stock:

This is just a thought as my newly built engine sucks and I have a 2jz single starring right at it in the garage. I know a lot of you guys have actually attended a few XDC events and might have a little more insight on tech. I really want to compete this summer but im running out of options and money trying to have a competetive power plant for this season. My 13brew is blowing oil all over the place and I have rebuilt it 4 times already with only 2k miles of actual driving time over a 2 year period. It might be time to replace the engine or scrap the whole project.

welds on subframe side definitely wont pass tech @ FD. haha

for pro-am's its just basic tech... if you make FD, and you go to Tech Day @ UTI then they'll pick it apart.

but XDC is pretty relaxed as long as safety of competitors, and fans/staff aren't at risk...
although i've never been to the first event of the year so maybe that could be why i think that.
XDC Vegas was strict, until i passed, then AZ they just checked the tech sticker.

pro am is more lax then pro level...its how they sucker drivers in , whats the point of building a car that you make it in the proam then move to pro and not be able to use?

Thats what is basically coming down to. I might need some one to help me out on this. Th engine right now has a streetport , RA superseals, pineapple racing gasket set, new oil control rings, and less than 2k rear housing. The season opens in about 3 months and i dont want to be sidelined. If any one would like to help send me a pm or the rotary is probably gonna come out..

I'm curious as to the interpretation of this rule as well.

Not that I can/will be competitive with it, but I'm swapping an S13 rack-and-pinion steering setup onto my Starion, and was following FD rules and regs with the buildup, until I saw this rule. Obviously an S13 crossmember doesn't just bolt right in, I would use the Starion mount pads on an S13 crossmember itself with S13 LCAs and tension rods, but that would, according to rules, fail an inspection.

that would obviously fail do to being from another make car. The subframe pictured here is not the best looking but i like the idea and I think it would fit with the 3.3.4 rule.

From what I've heard there can always be exceptions. The BMI RX8 doesn't have a stock subframe (custom tube frame I believe) and FD tech passed it as long as they moved the motor 6 inches forward out of the firewall. This may be marketing related as having a 4 rotor rx8 in the series is a good "wow" factor.

Before they had to move it

After they moved it

For anyone who's wondering they moved the radiator to the trunk

Like I said. Marketing related. I bet if someone who would bring tons of fans and money to the series, like if Jimmy Johnson, or Ken Block decided to join FD, tech would pass anything just to get them on track. Remember we're all just rolling billboards.

As far as the subframe goes use ones that have already been approved as examples

Rene Franco did this one for the CX Racing FD

That setup was approved by FD tech inspectors

They probably stick Tony on all the rotary cars

Yes it did pass. But I sent Tony pics of every thing I was not sure about.
He said this was cool before I went to tech. He did not pass my aluminum front end. We had to add a steel crash bar. Even tho it is not in the rule book any where saying you can not have one.

So ask him first. Don't assume it will pass
