Extending LCA/ballpoint arm thread
So you ordered the super steering angle kit (comes with the inner rod spacers) and asked for the longer adjuster sleeves that come in the bump steer kit?
Just out of curiosity, why does everyone extend the ball joint bracket instead of the LCA? Every time you got new ball joints you'd have to modify the bracket again. Seems like it'd be easier and stronger to just modify the lower control arm.
How often do you seriously replace your ball joint on a car that gets like 5k miles a year?
plus welding flat barstock steel is way easier than welding on cast aluminum with facets and rolls and stuff.
i ordered them separately about a thousand years apart but basically.

did you just notch it out (for wheel clearance) then weld that alum. plate in? or did you do anything else?
i was just thinking about doing that the other day when i was looking at the new PBM LCA's.. i figured you could do something like this (as long as its welded properly) and not loose strength, and a top of having notched LCA's, that route has got to be cheaper than buying PBM LCAs (when they come out). Best of both worlds.

I actually just moved the entire edge of it further inboard and welded that together, then plated it on both sides for extra strength. didn't take any pictures before i plated it, but here's a pic of the template I mocked up.

basically the black template is the piece that I cut out, then moved inboard and notched down into the arm to create a total weld the whole way around.

I did this before I extended my ball joints, first ripple strip I clipped at the track and the arm bent in half. Ended up going back to stock arms with extended ball joints was the solution. So far plenty of ripple strips and off the edge of a cliff hasn't bent them. Personally I will be buying the pbm arms when they are available.

I got the mazdatrix kit for my setup but the threaded centers for the outer tie rods are a bit to short if you go with a big extension. in the pictures i posted of mine i had to have those blue extenders made also. other than that yeah pretty much.
well did you get the bump steer ends or the super angle ends?
