SEM Trim Black

It's the best I've seen for interior trim restoration.

The results pictured are amazing, but too glossy for '95 Spec interiors.

Keep up the good work!

Highly recommend. I've done my entire FC interior with this stuff, and it works amazing. just don't try and spray your carpets with that duplicolor. Tec-nique brand makes a killer cloth dye..... if your needing it.

Nice work. I just finished painting the interior of my 85 rx7, You did a professional job, there are some small (marks) in mine but the new painted dash and interior are fresh to have, the temperature is cold here now so I am piecing it back together.

Top job, looks great. Just wondering if the same products and process would work on my series 1 interior?

Why not do the carpets with the Duplicolor?

Also quick question...I am a newb to this stuff and was wondering the following:

-How hard is it to remove all the pieces to do this?
-I have the black carpet but it needs to be cleaned...should I steam clean it before or after i install? I am curious that maybe it will be "stiffer" after a cleaning and harder to install?
-This is a dumb question so I will apologize (I am learning) but is there any adhesive to hold down the carpet when you install it? Or is it really held by the seats, buckles etc...? Would you recommend putting sound dampening on since the carpet is ripped up anyway? I was going to get an auto upholstery shop to do it but I bet it would be expensive!

Thanks so much guys! I will post pics when I do it as well.

Ok update guys...I have almost completed the process of moving to a black interior...I ripped everything out down to the carpet and I do have the black carpet but I could tell it was going to be quite difficult to install without a professional (seems like I definitely need to take off the dash) so I said no thanks and elected to do a black/tan mix interior. I left the carpet in (after vacuuming of course) and put in my black interior including the R1 suede seats.

I think next year I am going to take those seats and reupholster them to a black with tan accent combo.

All that is left is the headliner to do. I have the black headliner however I am worried as I do not have the small trim that goes by the sunroof...it is a small carpet-like trim...I have the tan one on my current headliner but not the black one and I am concerned that it will cause severe road/wind noise without it. Anyone know about this?? If not I will definitely install it. I will then search out black visors and the black dome surround light piece.

Attached are pics! It really was not that hard and believe me I know next to nothing about how to do projects like this so anyone can do it.

There is nothing wrong with using Duplicolor vinyl and fabric on carpets. Mine was fading is spots so I sprayed the entire rug. The paint/dye makes the fibers stick together so you need to use a stiff brush after its completely dry to make the carpet soft again.

So you sprayed the entire carpet with Duplicolor Vinyl and Fabric while the carpet was still iin the car? How many coats did you do? Did you brush it through each time after a coat? Did you change the color from tan to black?

Thx!

Anyone know that if you use the Duplicolor clearcoat, if it would make the finish sticky, especially in really hot weather like in CA. I've used it before on other materials and it was sticky with heat, so that would kind of defeat the purpose of it being leather. I'd imagine it would be pretty uncomfortable putting your elbow on a sticky center tunnel. :S

I've used the duplicolor clear coat on a couple of pieces, as far as i can tell it hasn't been sticky.

Anyone tried any of the SEM products or any others on a red interior?

So I found some visors finally and will be installing those with the black headliner soon...I have a couple of questions:

-the dome light surround piece...it is still tan and I cannot find a black one for the life of me...has anyone who switched to black from tan end up painting this?? I went to Mazda dealership and they say they have them new for $30...but he was unsure if it was the same part and the diagram of it on the computer was impossible to read.

-I have the black headliner and sunroof part BUT I noticed on my tan headliner it has a small carpet-like material trip around where te sunroof is...the black one does not have that...am I going to be hearing some massive road noise without that? I assume so

anybody know how the RED INTERIOR holds up? If the color isn't as vibrant anymore? I heard the red dye fades more quickly than black?

I used SEM paint to convert my tan plastics to black. Doesnt scratch with fingernails or anything unless you really hit it with something sharp
