Returning Faded Interior Back to Black
2 Attachment(s)
Now that my exterior is almost finished I've turned my attention to my interior. The car sat outside uncovered for a number of years and as a result much of the black interior is looking its age. I wanted to test a small piece so I picked one of the rear strut covers.
Process: -Cleaned part -Applied Adhesion Promoter -Applied Vinyl & Cloth Coating -Applied Clear Coat Test Piece Before: Attachment 716469 Test Piece After: Attachment 716470 I'm pretty happy with the result, so I think I'm going to go ahead and do the rest of the interior panels. |
What are the names of the chemicals you used and where did you get them? :)
|
I used DupliColor products from any auto parts store. I can get the exact names when I'm at home if you would like.
It's supposed to be pretty nice out later this week so hopefully I can get some more parts done then. |
That'd be great! I'll start mine this weekend!
|
Yes please post the exact product names, that looks amazing!

Had a little bit of time yesterday and got a few more pieces done, didn't have anything better than my phone camera for the pictures. I'll get some better pictures of it once I get it put back in.

LOL!!!! But on a serious note, its a real method. But your plastics are coming out awesome! Keep up the good work.
|
Haha, I couldn't resist that one
I've heard of the peanut butter thing but haven't seen it done |
tint ur windows with UV shielded grade, this will help a lot. Even tho its illegal anywhere, i have 35% on my windshield of my truck. Interior temps have gone done dramatically ever since. Which in turn results in less sun damage in on interior parts. Best part is, cops never suspect the windshield to be tinted because literally no one does that except for a few friends of mine and myself. :secret:

Black Magic -- I plan on tinting the rear glass and windows, the car is now normally covered or inside so they shouldn't fade too much again..........on a side note you've done an awesome job with your car, it almost makes me regret changing from brilliant black.
Had some decent weather yesterday so I got some more done. Now I need to get me a new non bose rear carpet. Attachment 716499 Attachment 716500 |
The pieces look pretty goood. I do have a couple of questions if you don't mind. How durable is this material? Did you do any sanding? Any idea how long this material will last?
|
Looks pretty nice. I'd be curious to know how it would look without the clear coat. While the clear, coat does make it look nice and sleek, since it seals the surface there's no breath-ability. Then again...it is so very shiny haha
|
Reno NVFD - There should be no issue with durability, I re-painted my shifter surround a few years ago, it see's much more action than any other interior piece and shows no wear. The panels are textured so sanding would take away from the factory look, scratches were rubbed down with some emery cloth.
whiteweazel21 - It doesn't look bad without clear coat, I'm only putting a very light coat on so it doesn't look glossy. The paint itself is sealing the plastic; I could be wrong but I don't think you need to worry about interior panels breathing. Thanks for the compliments |
looks great so far.. thanks for posting pics of the products. keep the pics comin.. ill post some as i re-do mine.
|
MYR1- Did you use the same paint on the interior parts? You got any pics of how those turned out?
|
u think this will work on the dash???
|
good thread :)
|
Thanks guys, the weather has gotten cold again so it will be a little bit till I get more done
Reno - I used different paint for the trim pieces, it was plastic model paint. I don't have any pictures of them but I followed a thread here on the forum erknee916 - It should work on the dash without a problem |
lookin good!
|
this is awesome
|
So I finally got to work on the interior again today. I have everything up to the door panels done now. I took a quick pic with my camera phone of the rear bin area. I'll work on getting some better pics up of the new pieces.
