Who Keyed the BMW M3 @ the DGRRX??

I just found out about this...

I'm going to get to the bottom of this...

If this is an act of one of the rotary guys, I'm going to say that you are NOT invited to any future DGRR events. This kind of act is just child like behavior and is not tolerated by ANY!!!

If anyone knows of who did such act, please PM me. If you could verify and have proof of who did this, I'll reward you by sending $100.

Again, this kind of behavior WILL NOT BE tolerated and we are going to get to the bottom of this!!

This EVENT is not just for rotary guys but all who love and respect rotaries. It doesn't matter if they drove a piston engine to DGRR or Rotary! You need to respect everyone's car and property!

So, if you know of any info leading to this situation, please PM ME!

What?!?!?

Why the hell would somebody do that? I drove my 335 down there since the FD is still in the paint shop and would be mad as hell if they chose to get mine instead/in addition

I've sent an email to the owner of the BMW. I'm waiting to hear back from the owner and see how bad the damage and when and where it might of happened. If the chance of this incident was in fact done by another rotary owner, several of us are currently at talk to collect money to help pay for this damage.

But I'll state this now and for next year's event... I will not tolerate such act and if we ever catch whom ever did this this year, I'll go out of my way to do what ever I can to make sure everyone know what kind of person you are and also follow up with legal action. If something like this happens again next year, the event will goto INVITE ONLY!!! This means, you need to know someone in order to attend... as some of you are just too stupid to attend event like this!

Thats just wrong to end off such a nice event like this. I hope whoever is responsible sits down and really thinks how they would feel if it happened to them. Then maybe they would have the decency to step up and take responsibility for their actions. I hope this wasn't a rotary owner.

I posted this on the "other' forum but will here also. I can help with this as it was my friend's 2006 M3 that was keyed. Mark's M3 was the titanium grey one and is a beautiful car. He inspected it prior to the event and no damage was noted. We noticed the keying on Friday afternoon when leaving the Fontana Dam area for the pic event. The damage is about one foot in length, on the back rear quarter panel.

Mark is not in need of money and I have spoken with him about this thread. He's touched and a bit embarrassed with the attention this is getting.

What sucks for me is I convinced Mark to attend DGRRX, telling him how great the rotary community is and then this happens. He's still high on the people he met but for me, this does give us a bit of a black eye.

My first car was keyed the whole length of the vehicle on both sides when it was parked in my high schools parking lot. Some jealous **** I guess, still pisses me off to this day.

How deep was the keying?

Karma is a BITCH I would really hate to think it was a direct result of DGRR. I would like to think that when Rotards gather this kind of childish crap is not a factor but, reality proves other wise.

Sorry to the owner of the M3

I also heard from some rotary guys that some of the attendees were drifting on purpose on the local roads. Again, drifting is very dangerous on public road and I've specifically asked not to do such a thing when arriving or leaving from the event.

This kind of idiotic behavior really makes me want to make this event INVITE ONLY and with VERY strict age limit and/or rotary ownership maturity. I rather have smaller number of true enthusiasts vs stupid idiots that doesn't respect the community by representing us in a negative way.

are you sure it was from a key and not maybe a long rock chip from driving?

i know a lot of people picked up some good sized rock chips on the way to/from the event and while on the dragon.

i didn't see it, but if it's just a long scratch down the side, it could be from a rock kicked up by another car...

Tom it is my buddy's car and it is definitely keying and not from a rock. Mark doesn't want to make a big deal out of this and it has happened to him before but I didn't think it wouldhappen ar DGRR.

WOW, I missed the event due to a last-minute family tragedy, but took this news VERY personally: I was planning to attend in my '03 M3. Certainly could have been me!

It's always a shame that the lowest common denominators amongst us can often get away with this kind of classless BS.

David, please let Mark know that many of us are sorry for the vandalism he was a victim of!

David, are you and Mark 100% sure that it was done by one of the attendees from DGRR? My point is, is Mark sure it happened only in the period of time while he was parked at the Dam? B/c it could have happened in a parking lot while getting food, gas, etc or have been an accident (shopping cart, someone walking by and having thier zipper or something else brush up against the car)

Things like these do occur. I am just trying to show some different angles here rather than jumping to conclusions that it was indeed an individual from our community.

One other point, while driving up to the dragon I saw multpile times on tight twistie roads where there were long branchs/sticks that were sticking out into the road at the height of a door handle and could have eaisly caused similar damage to Mark's car. I actually almost had one scrape my car, they were very hard to see.

Again, just my thoughts. Either way I hope we find out what happened so we can put this to rest. And if it was someone, I hope we find out who that person is and that they pay for what they did.

Unfortunately we're more than certain it happened at DGRRX. Mark detailed his car before the event so it couldn't have happened then. We also parked each day with that side of the car facing the cabin so it was pretty obvious. My father in law rode with him in the car so he was getting in and out of that side and he didn't notice anything until then and the position of the keying would be difficult to miss.

I've seen many a scratch from branches but this is not one of them Also note Mark didn't want to post this up at all. He likes the rotary community but we're more than certain it happened at DGRRX.

The more i read and the more i think of this crap happening to my car makes me very sick to my stomach. Once again I would like to believe that a small community event like DGRR would bring out the best in all of us but **** like this proves other wise.

Well, it also could have been from an overgrown tree branch sticking out from the side of the road. I live in the back woods country and this happened to my car. Everyone thought my car was keyed when it was not. Just a thought...

Phil, I understand why you would be so upset and disappointed, especially because DGRR is your baby but I'm having a hard time believing any rotary people could do anything like this. We all know you have to really love rx7s to own one so I think we all understand how important cars can be to anybody. I don't see how anyone here can do such a douchey thing like keying a car. None of us would put up with this crap.

Having said that, I'm not sure if we are going the right way about what happened. A cash reward doesn't seem like it would be productive. I'm sure if any of us saw someone key any car, we would say something without expecting a reward or confront the individual who did the keying. I would rather donate to help get things fixed to show Mark that even though he doesn't have a rotary, he is still a part of our community because he likes triangles enough to attend the event.

I understand your point.. My cash reward for catching this idiot might not be the best of the idea... But I'm hoping maybe this idiot's friend(s) might realize what this person did is wrong or maybe his/her friend needs the money and rat this person out. But I have to try just in case

But most importantly I have to bring this topic to light as I know most of us rotary guys are compassionate to situation like this and would NEVER do such a thing. I also need the person who done this to read and know why what they did is wrong and should never do it again... as maybe in his/her twisted mind they wanted no piston cars at rotary event, who knows.... But he/she needs to understand this kind of behavior will not be tolerated!!! Its all about respecting other people's property and obviously they never learned from their parents or forgotten about it through trying to be cool or what not. I hate to stereotype but this is definitely an act of immature person and if it continues on in the future, I have to do my best to eliminate such people by having higher standard to attend DGRR... If that means not all general population would be able to sign up!

I wasnt there, and its sad that someone ALWAYS. no matter what tends to ruin an entire groups reputation and make everyone feel uneasy.

on a side note, it is possible that it isnt a key mark. I just had to wiggle passed my fd outside inbetween my brothers car (18 y.o cant park) and had to slide my *** around to get into my car. the button on the back of my jeans was enough to leave a nasty scratch in his paint all the way down to the primer. I hope it was an accident but, the odds are it wasn't. maybe someone will fess up to being "drunk" and stupid.

Jesus guys, how may times do I have to say it? This is a key mark - it is not from a branch or from someone's jeans. I've had key marks before and this is one of them.

Also, the Volvo got keyed as well and they were both probably parked in the same area during the car show.
