Suggestions for next year

I'd like to start a thread for helpful and friendly suggestions for things you'd like to see next year, changed or new. It can be simple things like what to have for lunch, a better way to arrange the cars, etc.

I simply want to give Phil some good suggestions he can take into consideration so it might make his job a little easier.

PLEASE, don't bring any of the discussion about the banning issue into this thread.

I can't think of any right now... so you guys start it off.

no group runs. no DGRR runs. DGRR be the meet and greet, banquet, and thats it.

this solves all kinds of problems!

I have a few.

If we do a DVD next year, we could have the feature cars meet up and do the dvd runs before the rest of the group convenes. This would help with the large amount of down time during the meet.

No sweetwater bbq next year. We should find somewhere else to eat Friday and someone else to cater us on Saturday.

I've already suggested this last one but to get here it is again so it gets in the official suggestion thread.

And I agree with My5ABaby, no drama in this thread .

Parking by Generation Years

im not sure how to do it, but we came damn close to it this year. I agree with doing feature cars early. But i would love to see generation parking. apart from a few mistakes we almost had it, even with the Chevy truck in the way!

Thanks for the suggestions guys.. Especially with yesterday's issue regarding banning and such.. I think I came up with a solution.. Before I announce it, I want to make sure if its possible. Just so some of you know, Its encompasses what aws140 and mrthundercleese have suggested.

I think everyone will be happy at the end and hopefully it will make things easier for me.. Because I want to rip thru the dragon next year with hopefully my newly built FD!

Also, what I'm thinking is going to work, it will give us something to do if the weather isn't as nice as this past weekend... I'm thinking... I know, Phil using his brain??

I think the parking was done very well. Yea there were a few out of the their generation but it's a working progress.

I have to agree on the sweet-water. We had people who sat around for hours and never had their order taken. We had others who only got their drinks and check but never got their food, etc. They were severally under staff, and not ready for something like this. We should find somewhere else. (I'll look around and give more information as to where later when I do some more research. )

The feature shoot should probably be done while we eat... From what I saw there was plenty of food left toward the end and therefore wouldn't be any problem letting the feature shoot happen while the rest of us eats.

Just so you guys understand.. I was EXtremely upset with Sweetwater BBQ!

I've given them over a month to prepare. Ive called them every week and every two days, week before the event. They had plenty of notice and the owner completely dis regarded my wishes.

I will say, I'm working on a resolution to this. This year taught me that some parts of the event needs to be worked on.. I think you guys will like the new resolution to this... Let me see if it possible and if its all good, I'm going to lock in the date now and start the registration process.

If you guys really want to help sign up early!! Don't wait til the end.. Also, there will be three stages of registration.. kind of like with the shirts.. After each deadline, cost will be higher.

we asked another waitress while we were leaving why they were so under staffed, they said they had two waitresses call out and two new employees.

I suggest that we just let the Fontana crew handle all of the food next year. I think they did quite well with the banquet this year considering we exceeded the amount of people we had them prepare for.

We do need to have people registered earlier next year. That will help greatly with planning for accomodations and meeting areas needed for meals. I mean when I called the guy to give our expected attendees for dinner a month in advance, the sign-up thread had about 85 people on it and I would say we ended up with about 140 people for dinner.

yeah sweetwater sucks. you have done more than needed to get them preped for the past 2 years and they havent been able to do it. its not like they have fancy hard to fix food, one person i know had ordered a BBQ sandwich, an hour and a half later it didnt get fixed for him. seriously how hard is that to make?! it took 20 minutes for me to get an ice tea,and i got itbecause bobby stopped the waitress and said something about it. it took another 45 minute to get a burger. i dropped stina at the pizza place, they ate and made it over to sweetwater before i got my burger.

Fontana cost more, which is the main reason he used Sweetwater. If everyone is willing to pay alittle more then I'm sure Fontana will he more than happy to help us out. That may be Phil's plan anyway.

Fontana did offer to match the price for lunch that we got from sweetwater, but we gave sweetwater a chance and they blew it. The guy in charge of Food and Beverage for Fontana said he could do better deals for us with the more we do with them and they do have some less expensive options we could do for Friday night.

I already PM'ed Phil with this suggestion but I'll post it up here in case anyone else has thoughts on it.

When cars pull in they will have to register and get their name tags at the entrance. We can then have them turn in their second tag to get their shirt(s) and enter them into the drawing. This way you can be sure that at least all the drivers and passengers in the parking area are registered. You will have their name so, you will know who is part of the event and who is not.

Of course.. it would be even better if we could tape off the grass areas to the left and right... then we would have a controlled point of entry and you could be sure that everyone attending is registered.

Also, It would have helped a lot if the shirts were sorted out in advance. I know you have a lot on your plate already so, if you need help with that just have them sent to me along with a list of those who have already paid and I will take care of it. I may have to ship them back to you before the event though, not sure if I could fit all that in the 7.
Phil, I will definately be willing to do labels again next year. Let me know if you need help with other things too!

I think there should be a tech help center for dorks like me who need help fixing stuff.

I wasn't a huge fan of the dinner. For $15, I expected more.

is there a way we can roll all the costs into one payment? i know that was kinda done for shirts and lunch... but also include saturday's dinner. instead of buying a t-shirt meaning you're eating lunch, and having to buy a seperate meal ticket for dinner, etc... maybe just say $XX is the cost for meals and shirt for the weekend as part of the registration. that'd work out well if we do what golferfreddie suggests with moving to all food with fontana.

If we do that, then we would have to offer different "packages" since some people are not able to attend all meals. It is possible, but only if it is very organized, prepaid, and everyone is registered early.

Unfortunately thats the best we could do. I've checked other places and no other places could offer buffest style dinner (where we didn't have to wait over an hour). Either Pay $15 or go drive for an hour to eat for $10... at the end, paying $15 might be cheaper!

I think some of you will like my next plan and some of you will NOT. I need to make things easier on me and also easier on some of the others. Once the plan is in place, I will let some of you know. But this suggestion thread does help and I think we could get some of the things answered... So, keep posting!

maybe instead of "packages"... have a couple volunteers near the front desk of fontana for set hours (maybe a 3 hour window) to have people pre-pay for what they want to attend that weekend and be given "tickets"... and for those who just want to participate on saturday have a similar thing at the entrance to the dam (kinda like this year) where they are given "tickets" to what they want to pay for... that might be one of the easiest ways to help control. people can pre-register for "weekend passes" or "saturday passes" and those who don't pre-register by a certain date may have to pay more to try to encourage pre-registration...

i'm just goin' for different ideas on how to consolidate lists of people doing certain things and such... i know for me, i'd rather pay one lump sum up front to eat all my meals and get a shirt and such.

I figured it was something like that. You could also strong-arm Fontana.

Bring a small PA system so any announcements and the speakers can be heard at the meet very clearly since I have an idea this is only going to get bigger.

I think we all agree eat somewhere else Friday night and have someone else cater Saturday. Also more trashcans at the dam for the meet might help.

As before any race or HPDE we have a drivers meeting and a tech inspection. The people who have spoken each year have covered several good points but after seeing what went on for 4 days this year there really needs to be a speach about basic tech inspecting your car and what can and will happen when you push your car as some of us will. I won't go into detail about what to cover but suffice it to say it to me it's just as or more important than telling peole to stay on their side of the road to help prevent accidents.

I been trying to strong arm them for years.. This year, they have new owners and management and because they spent millions renovating they are pretty set on their price..

Just give me some time as Im working on something.. If people calls me back, I will let you know what will happen next year..

I can't emphasize this but PLEASE Sign up early!! If you want to help that will help me the most! Knowing who's coming earlier, I could prepare better.

Example, Banquet on saturday was crazy and we even ran out of food because people didn't sign up. If I knew there will be over 150 people, then I could of told them.. So, sign up early!!

I apologize for this as well. I didn't sign up early because of my job but that shouldn't have mattered because I know that you would have sent me the shirts or gave them to me in person at a later date. I'll sign up early for next year and pay for mine and my wife's part even if I'm afraid that I won't be able to attend because I want to support this event. Sorry about this year.
