April 7th, 2006 - Friday

7 - 9PM Meet/Greet/Dinner @ Sweetwater BBQ, Robinsville, NC.

9:30PM Caravan to Fontana Village from Robinsville, NC (approximately 30 min drive).


April 8th, 2006 - Saturday

8AM Meet at the check in office for those of you who have experience on Deals Gap (Group Leaders)

8:30 - 10AM Group leaders will head to Deals Gap for early run and scope out the area. They will decide how the actual runs will be organized and such. (Stopping areas, how many runs, etc)

10AM - 1PM (maybe 1:30PM) Everyone will meet at the lower part of Fontana Dam. Meet/Greeet/Car Show/Demonstration/Lecture/Group Pic/etc.. Everyone needs to park in designated area (specific generation rotary cars).

1:30PM - 7PM Driving the Dragon!

7:30PM - 9PM Dinner/presentation/award ceromony at Fontana Village. Cost $10 per person.

9 AM - 10:30 AM Check out and meet at the office parking lot

10:30 AM - 11 AM Drive to Robinsville for Brunch

11 AM - 12:30 AM Brunch/Lunch @ Phillips Diner

12:30 - 4PM Drive the Skyway

I took a trip to the gap today in the Miata and checked out the lower part of the dam where we will meet. The grass is mowed pretty well, but only about 20 feet or so from the road on both sides. After that, the grass comes about halfway up my lower leg. There are also some holes and dips in some parts of the land that you would not be able to see if you were driving in the grass, but generally it is pretty flat.

This is just a general warning to people. Espicially those of you with painted front lips.

If you decide that you need someone to mark out the bad spots Saturday morining with road cones or something, I volunteer. I will only be there for the Saturday event, but should be getting there pretty early. Maybe around 8-9ish?

 

I'm contacting them on that this week. See if I can get them to get it cut before we get there!
If they don't or can't we'll take you up on that offer. May end up using both sides of the road instead of just the side next to the spillway.

Hey guys I live in Crossville, TN and found out that I'm not far from the meet. I am a new member but have extensive knowledge in Rotary engines. I would love to come up on Saturday but am wondering if I can just show up on such short notice? I would appreciate any help or replies.

I'm hoping to meet up with your caravan for lunch at the Golden Corral in Chattanooga to run the Dragon into Fontana by 5:00.

Are you planning to check in at Fontana before heading to Sweetwater?

Where do you plan to be at 4:00PM? Fontana or Telico Plains?

I ask because I'm headed to Charlotte after the event and I'm trying to determine which end of the Skyway I'll be at 4:00... this will determine if I need to stay at Fontana Sunday night.

 

We'll be putting flyers at the lobby where you check in today and signs up for the event. I'll bring some to Sweetwater tonight also. Weather was great yesterday, little overcast this morning but hey, it's the mountains. Everyone have a safe trip up here and watch out for law enforcement. We saw everything from SUV Sheriff's to unmarked HP on the way from Raleigh NC, they were working the roads more than I've ever seen them.
