Tried to make a FS thread weeks ago - still hasn't been approved

I tried to post a for-sale thread in the 2nd gen parts section a few weeks ago (honestly not sure of when that was, anymore) and it still isn't showing up - was there something wrong with the thread, or have new threads just not been approved in that time, or what?

For what it's worth - If we need a new moderator for that section, I'd be happy to step up and help out.

Anyhow, please someone let me know why my thread wouldnt' have been approved.

Thanks

-Collin

You forgot the location icon (in 3 out of the 4 threads that you made in the classifieds).

Figure 2hr to 2days to get it approved. Most ads are approved within 12hr, but sometimes things get backed up and it takes a little longer. If it is not up after two days, then you probably forgot something (location icon is the most common problem and not listing an asking price is probably the 2nd most common problem). If you are pretty sure that you remembered to do everything and it still is not showing up, just pm one of the classified mods (myself or one of the others listed on the bottom of the screen in the Classified section). We can look into it and see why it isn't showing up.

Okay, thanks for your help!

So threads without an asking price aren't permitted? That may well have gotten me, too.

Correct. Anything for sale needs an asking price. The rules are here:

https://www.rx7club.com/faq.php?faq=..._section_rules

A simplified list can be seen here:

https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generation-rx-7-1979-1985-parts-101/%2A%2A%2A-guys-make-easy-yourselves-how-get-your-fs-wtt-thread-approved-%2A%2A%2A-823000/

If you follow this checklist, you should have no trouble getting your ads approved.

I'd just like to say that the ads would get approved quicker if more members would actually take the time to read the rules and read the stickies at the top of the FS sections.

I'm pretty sick of getting PMs from members too lazy to read the requisite info yet demanding to know why their thread hasn't been approved. I spend more wasted time on these PMs then approving ads by law abiding members. Once I realized this, I relegated those PMs to the back of the line.

If you're polite, you'll get an answer. If you're rude, well......

I understand what you're saying, and I'm sure that gets annoying quickly. On the other hand, there are likely people such as myself that are well-meaning and try to follow the rules in their sale thread post, only to have forgotten a state icon or some such.

Just a thought, but for people who are selling parts that make more sense to pick up than sell in person, maybe posting a location shouldn't be necessary, as it's not relevant to their sale.

When you look at the classifieds boards and you see all of the location icons, it makes me wonder what kind of details-oriented businessman could forget it.

And forgetting a price? Geez Marie.

Seems like you guys are just creating a lot more work for yourselves than you actually need to. On another forum I frequent they have a form at the top of each FS thread that requires people to post the thread type (FS, WTB, trade...) and a price before it is allowed to be submitted. It just posts an error message on the top of the page until those fields are filled out. That way they don't have a team of moderators constantly combing every submitted thread for mistakes, and members don't have to retype their entire post because they overlooked some mundane detail like a location icon.... Plus it's really annoying not knowing if your post hasn't been approved because the moderators just aren't getting to it, or if you made some silly mistake.

The greater majority of forums I frequent don't have such extensive thread preparation requirements, so overlooking something like a location icon (which I have listed in my profile anyway) is not a hard thing to do. I can see the point of it, but at the same time don't see why it's such a big deal. Most people are shipping the items anyway, so knowing the origin is a moot point, and if the seller is requiring the item to be picked up then they are only hurting themselves by not listing an exact location. Furthermore simply knowing the state someone is from isn't THAT much help, I've purchased many things from people that live in the same state as I do but I still have them ship it, it can be a 13+ hour drive to certain parts of MI from where I live, which has been the case a couple times now...

It has cut down on a lot of bad experiences, so we kinda like it. Some of the more astute Mods have also managed to stop scammers simply from recognizing the style of the ad, which is something software will always have a hard time doing.

On the other points....well, I wondered that, too. It's a matter of money, I think. We want those options? They aren't drop down available options, we gotta pay for them.

I guess I'm not suggesting removing the moderator approval altogether, but at least add an element that requires those fields to be filled out before the thread can even be submitted for review. That way the moderators can still look things over and catch scammers before their ad goes public, but members also don't have to deal with forgetting a mundane detail and then have to retype the whole thread or wait forever not realizing it won't get approved.

The local forum I was refering to does use drop down menus. I've never been an admin for a vbulletin board so I don't know if it was a built in option or if they paid for it, but they are a smaller local forum so I doubt they could afford to do something like that if a better funded national forum like rx7club couldn't.

Just seems like it would make everyones lives easier, food for thought I guess...

Sounds like a nifty hack. Once we get migrated to VBB 4+ maybe we will have that functionality. For now we aren't going to get many upgrades to this old software version.

Just wanted to acknowledge the changes made, so far seems like a much more workable system for both the moderators AND users. Good work guys, hopefully my suggestions helped out at least a little bit .
