Photobucket messing all forums all at once!

I don't know if you noticed, but you can't view the pictures posted in here anymore, if they are hosted on photobucket. Apparently photobucket decided that they will charge for third party hosting, and I was shocked to see how expensive those bast**d are charging for it: 399$ per year!

Here's the link to an informative article:photobucket extorsion

I know it looks like a joke, but apparently it's not...

Yeah there a bunch of ****** All of my links are toast now.

Admins, I can't update my past posts. Is there a way to get help updating links on my project thread once I find a new host?

Yeah, I noticed this the past few days browsing (old) threads.
It's a pretty trash move by them, ridiculous.

So what's the go-to alternative hosting site now?
I hear MediaFire is good, but I've actually never used them before for uploading.

Same here. Anyone can recommend a fast, reliable and simple hosting service now that Photobucket decided they dont want any customers any more?

Alternative to Photobucket

Thanks to the robbing scumbags at Photobucket deciding to block 3rd party hosting, this is decimating forums worldwide where images are hosted on Photobucket.

The easiest to use alternative I've found so far is Imgur: The most awesome images on the Internet

This picture is hosted on there, seems ok...

I use Imgur. I get free unlimited uploads at full resolution. Photobucket is scam.

Imgur does not allow hotlinking like this either...

Also, don't use Imgur to host image libraries you link to from elsewhere, content for your website, advertising, avatars, or anything else that turns us into your content delivery network.

You can load your pictures from the forum website album, but keeping pictures all at the same spot, for different forums all together, seems to be a thing of the past.

This is exactly what Imageshack did a few years ago, but didn't even give people the option of paying for their images - they just deleted them all. I am the owner and administrator of AusRotary.com. The Imageshack debacle decimated many of our best build logs, tech threads etc., as many of these images were hosted on Imageshack.

This latest Photobucket move is salt in the wounds for forums world over which are already suffering at the hands of Facebook and Instagram.

Thankfully I have been able to restore many lost Imageshack images by finding cached versions on archive.org and updating the hotlinks to the working archive.org address (which hopefully will never die). I did this in our important tech reference and model reference threads. Perhaps people can do the same with lost Photobucket photos?

I know that on Mazda626.net, they scrape and store all images on their servers to avoid that issue.
Im personally considering getting stuff hosted myself, and not rely on others.

Moving to Imgur myself... but as old threads are not editable, even if one had the time to go through and re-upload and edit hundreds/thousands of posts, it's impossible to fix.

I guess Photosuckit no longer sees people who don't pay them directly as "customers," even though they've leeched off the free content people uploaded to them for a decade or more while cramming more and more intrusive ads down on us until their interface became nigh unusable.

Will be the end of them in short order, is my guess. Meantime, I've got to see if I have anything valuable posted there that I need to pull local copies of, before they go totally tatas akimbo.

It is possible to get around this - it is just a setting in the forum software. It is a matter for the administrators of this forum to decide whether they wish to allow users to edit their own posts.

I'm not sure if there is a way aside from mods and admins doing all of the legwork. They claim the reason for the non-edit function is to prevent users from editing their classified posts. That's all well and fine, but the rest of the forum is far larger than just classified. Unless there is a discrete feature to allow classified only editing disable, then it looks like the main forum is screwed.

You can definitely configure edit privileges on a section by section basis (eg classified can be non-edit, while tech section can be editable). At least you can on phpBB. Not sure about VBulletin like this forum, but usually VBulletin has a superior feature set than phpBB.

I just deleted my photobucket account because of this. I encourage others to do the same.

5 years of build log photos down the drain. it would be great if the build threads could be editable at the least.

Anyone have an easy way of migrating everything out of Photobucket? Seems like a pretty dick move to screw over a bunch of forum-goers and I've got a lot out there that's no longer on my PC. It's easy enough to switch to elsewhere (Imgur, etc.) going forward but not so easy to grab everything and run.

You can download entire albums, including your main bucket.

When you are in Photobucket, select Your Library from the menu bar. This takes you to Your Bucket. On the lower right of Your Bucket page there is an ACTIONS menu with the Download Album option. It downloads a zip file of all your pics in the album.

Awesome, thank you both. Not sure how I managed to completely miss the existence of that feature Typically pretty good about those kinds of things.
