Trader Ratings

It seems that more offten, people are getting ripped off around here.

It also seems that members are not that fast to use the reputation points system to report bad transaction behaviour; but they might be more inclined to use a trader rating system such as the one on "HobbyTalk" forum, or on Ebay...

Can you initiate such a system so we can get feedback on a seller/buyer/trader without having to scan all the threads for the member name and then read all the good, bad, and ugly?

This would provide a one-stop location to know if someone is a good transaction partner or not.

I like the idea...and I've seen it on other forums. My question is, lets say I have 100 transactions, 75 of which are positive, but 25 of which I ripped off ppl. Do I just have a +75 rating? Because in ebay, it shows a percentage for the positive feedback, not just a rating (I think you can see from my example how a rating alone can be misleading)

Using your example, if I had a 75% rating, then any potential deal partner would know that 1/4 people had a problem with me and that he should search, or ask for details.

However, if I had a 95, 100% satisfaction rating and hundreds of deals, then most people would automatically trust and not bother with reading though hundreds of threads looking for signs of problems.

The "comfort percentage" is subjective and depends on the person reading.

Oh so you're not just looking for the # of transactions, but a percentage w/ it too. Gotcha... that makes much more sense.

Trader Ratings

If you check out the good guy bad guy section you see a lot of people asking for some kind of buyer/selling rating system. I see that rx7club.com is indeed on VBulletin. LS1Tech also runs VB and i was wondering if it would be possible to implement a trader ratings system like they use.

I understand that there are many different versions of VB and they are all different so i just figured id ask and see what people/mods/admin said.

I don't want to loose track of this suggestion...I really think we need this here. I know many oher forums I am a member of use it and it is quite helpful. I think our for sale sections are some of the busiest i seen on many forums.

I have had plently of good transactions with people here but not evryone goes to the good "guy"/bad "guy" section. Besides saves quite a bit of time and searching to read instead of reading through the section you can just click below the user name.

I think the forum owner is worried about potential lawsuits if he sets something like this up?

It would be nice if one of the mods/owners explained why they do not use a feedback style rating for sellers, and buyers.

I agree, all the other forums are using this method, and why not us?

BUMP!

There is a local car forum here, beyond.ca that uses trader ratings, its a php forum as well.

I don't know how the rating system works, regarding numbers (i can't find a persone with a negative response), but at the very least you can see a list of all his previous transactions, with a link to the FS thread, and transaction comment.

You also can't post in the marketplace section for 30 days from the day you join. Which may or may not cut down on scammers, depending on how patience and well thought out they are with their ip's and accounts.

I agree, for a good example of a combined classifies system with trader rating check out http://www.rs25.com/classifieds/

I have used it a few times with my subaru stuff and i like the system very much. Its hierarchy would work well with the way the current classifieds system is on this forum

because too many people were abusing it.............rather than using it for it's ACTUAL purpose the members began harassing others and sending anonimous immature ratings ("you're a *** and I'll eat your mother out tonight").......it got so out of hand that it HAD to be removed. There is a time and a place for everything and most of the children cannot tell when it is appropriate to act like an *** and when to be serious.

Madrx7racer, trader ratings is COMPLETELY different than the reputation points you're referring to.

Eric Cheatham wanted it reset? Just a guess...

I like this idea too. It would be nice if people were somehow forced/reminded to report the success or failure of a transactoin. I've sold so much stuff on this forum and have probably 5 people that left me feedback.

trader rating only for people that bought/sold stuff through the forum, but not reputation points like we used to have(everyone could leave points for whatever reason they want)

I have this EXACT same problem. On my other username I've had 50+ transactions and NOT once has a buyer posted feedback. It's really frustrating! I even ask nowadays but still nothing and I always have them PM'ing saying great doing business with you and what not. Some changes really need to take place in the feedback system IMO.

PLEASE look into this. Other forums have very structured feedback systems, much like EBAY where everyone is encouraged to report back.

Well one thing that will help is that trader ratings work both ways. So when I buy from you, you come through, and I leave you a positive rating, you leave me one as well, so both our ratings go up (I believe it does specify whether or not you were the buyer or seller however, b/c they are two very different things). But some ppl may simply be too lazy to start a thread for the other party. Clicking on the trader ratings may be much quicker and thus more successful.

I did that for sometime, but then honestly those people didn't even acknowledge that so I gave up. People like that don't deserve to have the seller (whose reputation is much more important) jumping through hoops for them.
