Clean up the for sale area
This forum as a whole is great, its the only one that I participate in every day.
Suggestion:
The for sale section, specifically the second gen section is a mess. The sticky that says "location in title of thread" is rarely ever followed. I've been looking to pick up a project car for three months and the amount of time I spend determining where a car is located is beginning to add up.
Then, you do find a car in your area? No pricing. Rules say post a price but again lots of people don't until ten people demand it, so you have to surf to the second page just to find out the guy wants $2000 for a car that doesn't run. Normally one would hope that a thread like that would just drop off the bottom of the screen but twenty people make bids that are rejected so it keeps coming back to the top.
There should be alot of skepticism anyway when someone who just joined the forum has a car to sell, but alot of times you look down the thread and every post slowly reveals more and more that is wrong with the car. If somebody doesn't ask, the seller would never reveal it, until the buyer actually goes to see the car in person. I'm not naming names but I made a five hour round trip this week to see a car, and its condition was not exactly accurately described. Everything about the car was far worse than indicated. Although admittedly, I don't think banning newbies from the for sale area is ideal because some honest people do join to find a home for a decent car and there is nothing wrong with that. I'm talking about having to read three pages in before somebody says "the car doesn't have any wheels".
So what I propose is that the basic requirements include the year, model, location, general condition and price be in the title, and the first post include a concerted effort to disclose all pertinent information and include the first round of pics, with more pics in the following posts OK. After all, nobody puts half a listing on ebay that says "I'll give out more info later if somebody asks me for it". If a member can't provide all that info right off the bat, maybe not from deceit but possibly just laziness, then just delete the whole thread until they get their act together.
Thats my suggestion. I think that would save space and alot of time.
Thanks.
Ron

I dont know if you can fix all of that..., But location and price can be a huge factor in proceeding to open a thread. I know that you can cursur over the thread title and read some of the first thread without opening it up but if they dont list price and location it is usless... One other thing i cant stand is looking at a part for sale, then after drooling for days and then i finaly look at the post date turns out it is a 2 years old, we need to start deleting anything older the 12 months in the for sale section

I don't think you have to live w/ it at all. Other forums are lethal when it comes to following the rules. I've had posts locked w/o warning because I didn't include my EMAIL ADDRESS in the posting lol. And they do it to EVERYONE. No location, no price, no email = no thread. It all comes down to whether the mods wanna enforce closely enough or not. If they do enforce like crazy for a short time, the classifieds section would shape up in a hurry. Then it would just about maintaining, which shouldn't be hard, since now ppl know you mean business.

Location is huge. In the first & second gen forum where the freight is more than the parts are worth in some cases it's huge. Why don't the mods just delete threads w/o price and location in title.

I agree that the classifieds section can be a mess.
Regarding pricing, the sellers try to be a little deceitful to see what type of offers they can get for the product. Hence, they ask for a PM.
Regarding the location, not all of the locations apply to us. I'm in Los Angeles, but there is no selection available for me. I suppose I could enter in SoCal or something else in the title, but then again...the sellers are the ones who are choosing to be vague in an attempt to get the most views.
Some people are even selling on behalf of their frieneds. I've said in the past, have the actual seller post on here. But people just don't listen.
And the sheer number of threads made in a single day...that is what makes it difficult to monitor.
We do monitor the threads, but please keep in mind that the moderation is done on a volunteer basis. We all have lives outside of the forum. We do get busy. We do have priorities. I'm not saying that we don't monitor things at all, but if you want attention to a problem, please report it. That is the easiest and best way to get our attention. How else do you think we respond to those spam threads? So please report any problems that you guys see...so we can address it. Otherwise, it can get lost amongst all the other threads.
Thanks guys.
Dom
