WTF! Bell has capped my speed to 30k:(

Anyone else have the same opinion i do?
I suggest we all phone in Monday and show them that we have had it with the throttling, increase in prices and poor service!!!!!!!!!

I understand this only hurts the people who are using P2P but that is not the point!
We pay for the service and we should get it. Just because Bell went on a buying spree and bought out CBC they think now they can control the Canadian P2P sharing LMFAO! I dunno, i might just be taking our little "Grey area" for granted, but untill its against the law i will DL whatever i want!

The only way anything is going to happen is if some law is passed where ISP's can't throttle internet traffic (ie, neutral internet) similiar to the Comcast (American ISP) cases going on now in the US where Comcast is losing.

This cap applies to "ALL" encrypted packs so does this mean VOIP/Skype will not work proper?

They only care about your torrents wasting valuable upload. I wouldn't worry about anything else unless it uses some weird protocols.

I think that we should be extremely vocal about this. Parliament is creature that reacts strongly to public pressure. That's how law and policy is changed. A host on CBC had pointed out that the fact that CBC's delivery of an upcoming show may/will be greatly affected by this new initiative. He went on to say that the fact that CBC's (and therefore the government's) mandate is to offer the tax paying members of the public, delivery of it's content through all means of media to allow for full accessibility. The CRCT's silence on the issue may already be a violation of this mandate.
Bell spokesman Jason Laszlo said there has been no backlash from customers. I say prove to him that that is NOT the situation. I for one will be contacting Bell, Rogers, and my local MPP with my concerns. I will also be contacting New Democrat MP Charlie Angus and letting him know that I support his efforts in this matter.

So what's the best way to get the message to them?

Calling to complain won't work if you get the Sympatico Billing or Technical help desks. I know, I used to work for the technical support department for Sympatico. Even when most of it *wasn't* based in India, it was impossible to get any real message through. I worked there and couldn't even get my line serviced properly.

If anyone knows the appropriate place to contact to send complaints and actually have them get somewhere, let me know. I for one find this to be incredibly unfair because a lot of LEGAL material is distributed via bittorrent. Try reinstalling World of Warcraft and downloading all the updates with this throttling on? What about all the various Linux ISOs and material that I grab via bittorrent?

The worst part is that you can't even count on the marketplace to sort things out - in some places alternative broadband connections are not available so you can't just say "Well if Bell customers don't like it they can switch to another provider to show their dissatisfaction"

I'm with Execulink, and have had nothing but good results with them without this BS. You can even get Phone, and Cable tv through them, and you can have the choise of Cable Internet or DSL internet. I have VoIP phone and DSL from them. Don't have cable just use satellite.

.. it's not just BT/P2P FILE SHARING, this includes streaming video, and online gaming networks even listening to music in anything over a 64kb format.. It pretty much kills off the use of any new internet technology usage in the last 2-3 years. But at least DSL is STILL better then rogers cable.. rogers truly sucks for anything but the most basic surfing..

I prefer Rogers over Bell DSL lol. Its so much better. They throttle BT but everything else is full speed. Maybe you had a bad wire. I have both though because I need a backup.

Problem is switching to another ISP doesn't resolve anything if the ISP is leasing from Bell.

Bell is doing more than killing torrents, they are shaping traffic for all clients:

Great news for all the old DEMONOID users, ITS BACK UP AND RUNNING for us Canadians! Same ratio and everything! So use it while you still can.
And make sure to check out my list of torrents for some good NZ/AU tuner car movies once i get my seeds back in order! Some good rotor action in them.

Just switch ISP's.

Gotta love this, when people are saying "digital downloads are the future! NO more discs! just download!" haha, **** that at 30k. Take a week to get a DVD or Blu-Ray quality. lol. Such BS, Microsoft are as smart as their OS is stable. (Microsoft is pushing the Digital Downloads)
