Why the RX7?

Don't know if I ever have seen a thread like this but I thought it would be interesting to hear from the Canadian owners why they chose/like the RX7. I know for me it varies by year. First gen I liked when I was younger as it was my first car I looked at buying and the whole original rotary concept and the size of the car appealed to me. Now for the FC I kinda like the lines when you work with them they look pretty good and perform well and cheap. The FD is obviously my favorite and is my dream car I like it because of the overall design inside and out the weight ratio and the rarity. Now I am interested to hear what other people have to say about why they like the RX7!

To be honest, when I was in my teens and into Initial D, I always liked the white red suns FC, and I remember waiting in line at Wonderland to play initial D, my friends pointed at the picture on the machine and said "he looks like you" (making reference to the character who drives the white fc in the anime). That sort of put the nail in the coffin for me in terms of what car i'd want, hahaha.

However, I didn't get my first FC until after buying a Prelude, then a Celica. Had enough money a couple years ago to buy a RHD FD a couple years back and almost did but went back to an FC, I don't know what it is about it... I'm on my 8th one within the last 7 years

i saw an RX7 for the first time in 94, i was 6 years old and i fell in love. i bought a poster of a white type RZ it hung on my wall until i was 17 and bought my very first car a CYM yellow FD. she was everything i wanted and more. unfortunately 6 months after buying the car i was hit by a drunk driver one night on my way home from a friends place, car was written off. I dreampt of one day owning another, last year i bought a 1997 type RZ (silver not white) its amazing to have my dream car in my garage, im 24 years old now and some nights i open my garage door and just sit on the steps and stare at my beautiful car.

I've always wanted one, could never afford one - or when i could, I couldn't find one worth owning.

I have owned four Z cars - and like them all in their own different way. The engine in the Z32 (Twin Turbo, same era as the FD) is ABSOLUTLEY BULLET-PROOF - I had 260000 on mine and still going strong when I sold it.

My Z33 I had done up nicely, but ruined it with coilovers that killed my spind

The FD is a much sharper car, lighter, all around better package, but you lose a lot of room. I would still buy a Z32TT to complement it and keep both - but nothing puts a smile on my face like the FD does.

I would say the OP nailed it.
I like the clean and simple design of the FB.
I love the design lines of the FD, inside and out; a flowing work of art.
But I own an FC. That platform offers the most diversity.
Turbo/ NA, Coupe/Convertible, 2 seat/4 seater.
I've owned a couple FCs already; there is still a couple more I want to try out.

FD has timeless design lines. The fact that they're rare doesn't hurt the cause....I love when someone has to ask what kind of car it is...

I've loved RX7s sincen I was a kid. My dad always had GMs, Camaro, Firebird, Trans am, Chevelles..then one day he was offered an RX7 from someone at work..it was an 81, White and had a nice looking bodykit on it. My mom always said it looked like a Porsche..and I was the one who told my dad to buy it. I've always liked them since, so I got my first RX7 when I was 17. Now I'm on my 5th RX7.

And for me i love the fd because it has as sed above a timeless design but what really stole my heart in the fd is the really sick interior by far the best interior ever designed for a car

There's a reason they're nicknamed "japanese ferraris" and it isn't based on performance.

Initial D for sure. The FD in particular stood out in the series because of its unique engine. I've wanted one since I was about 15 I guess. 25 now, so it took me 10 years to get my dream car.

I have to say that one of my reasons is kind of superficial: the FD3S RX-7 is one of the most beautiful cars ever made. It was love at first sight.

The fact that it goes the way it shows is just proof that cars can be moving works of art.

All the important stuff is there: handling, light weight, 50:50 balance, power, braking, etc. The less important stuff (fuel economy, ride quality, interior space, cargo capacity, all-weather driving, back seats, missing "premium" materials and luxury features, etc.) are not deal-breakers for me.

I still remember the first time I saw the FD in the dealer showroom up here in Newmarket.
We were getting the 626 oil change interval done. Saw this beautiful piece of machinery just sitting there in the show room. The minute I got in, I knew exactly right then I will be getting one as soon as I was old enough.
The expression this machine left on me must've been grand since the sales guy saw me and offered me a drive in it. I'm pretty sure it was just an excuse for him to take a drive in the beast, I didn't care I just wanted to see if the car would go as fast as it looked. I was not disappointed. I never felt thrust like that before. I was 14-15 at the time.
Ever since that test drive, I never wanted any other car.
4yrs later, just before my 19th bday, I picked up a 94 PEP with 48k on the clock. I have never felt more alive when I went to pick her up.
16yrs later, and she still puts a silly grin on my face.
Yes, that is my car in my avatar pic.
They'll have to bury me in it.

I'd been following the development news from Mazda and car mags on the new 3rd gen and was very intrigued.
Vacationing in Greece in 1993 (rented a crap Fiat Punto) - pull into a gas station and here pulls up a brand new VR. Much drooling!
5 yrs later and I had my own...exactly like the one I saw in Greece.
Still got it. 110K and mostly unmolested

For me, it was to be a little different. In high school, everyone had something like the old 5.0 Mustangs, Fieros, Civics, etc. Rarely did I ever see an RX-7, and whenever I did, it looked like junk. I came across a clean looking 1990 RX-7 (which was white) and I wanted it so bad to make it as clean as possible. After graduating, I had saved up for an FD, and I owned both the FC and the FD for a little while. Rotaries ended up being the only thing I knew and to this day, I don't really see too many RX-7's around. I have yet to see another one other than mine in Regina (although I know there is a couple apparently driving around),

When I was in my first year of trade school I had some spare cash burning a hole in my pocket and I wanted a summer toy. I was sick of my hard work on my truck going to hell because of winter driving. A good friend of mine that I met there suggested I look at his '88 gxl that he wanted to sell. That was the beginning of the addiction. Being a mechanic, I work on cars all day and working on your own is just an inconvenience most times. With the Rx7 it was different and unique. I've been with the rotary ever since and haven't looked back.
