Who misses their car?

I had to put the little guy away in storage (90 gxl, engineless, awaiting turbo swap) for the winter. He was tucked away in a hanger with 9 other cars (old jags and TVRs) a distance from my place so I dont get to check in to see how hes doin.

I, for one, miss my car.

Is that bad? Is it bad that I miss my car more than my girlfriend who lives 500 miles away that I only see every couple of weeks?

The snow falling today is just a reminder of how far away spring really is

My skyline has been parked for winter for about a week now and it's driving me crazy.

It will be a long and gruesome winter ..... I parked my 87 t2, about an hour away. So yeah, I know where you're talking about. The only benefit of having it stored, is I can work on it now without having to worry about making sure its driveable the next day ...... I know what most of you will say, you live in vancouver! It never snows. Well last year we got the biggest snowfall, recorded in van history I believe.

It's killing me, I've only got to drive it ONCE this summer because it was just finished at RPM. Why can't we have a November/December like last year? I was still in a t-shirt for christ's sake. It's just not fair.

If you really miss your rotary that much over the winter do what I want to do. I'm trying to find an old snowmobile with a Sachs singe rotor engine in it. You can still drive a rotary even with 15 feet of snow. The only problem is they're kind of hard to find.

Mine is sitting directly opposite my 626 in the garage, so I see it every morning. I still have to take it out once cause I wanna get the rust protection applied as a just in case measure. After all, with all the other cars coming and going from the garage ....

However , I will take the winter to do some work on it. The radio needs to be rewired (the guy I bought it from really messed up some of the radio wiring, but luckily didn't touch the harness), the defogger relay needs replaced, and possibly a switch or two.

I can also hunt around for someone to take a look and diagnose the A/C (also didn't work). I think the dryer just needs to be replaced but I need someone in Toronto that is good with car A/C's. To the Mazda dealership's credit they knew they couldn't do it right, and weren't sure who could and said so up front.

Then I can budget, and plan upgrades ... like replacing the factory shocks and such, give it a thorough cleaning, and where to get it repainted. The 18 year old paint job is beginning to show.

I took mine out for a drive this afternoon and had a blast. I suspect it will be the last drive of the year.

It always amazes me the extent to which cold temperatures effect summer tires. There is a shocking loss of grip. In addition, a few years ago I wacked a gaurd rail while on summer tires on what I think was black ice, so I don't have much nerve when it comes to pushing it in the corners on summer tires in the cold.

Mine is out back, covered bottom and top with tarps. I get to see the vague silhouette of her whenever I look out the bedroom window or go back there to put the garbage out. She's been back there for a month, ever since we got the first snowfall. It does drive me nuts to know I have a perfectly good, fun car and I'm stuck driving a Sunfire until April, but that just means I'll enjoy it that much more.

There was one in Durham that was absolutely pristine! They guy waxed in monthly! It may still be there. It only had something like 700kms on it. Of course, he wanted a small fortune for it.

That would be awesome, however the small fortune part would suck. You don't by any chance remember what kind it was. I know there were a few different companies that used that engine. Arctic Cat used it in the early 70's in the Panther and I believe the Cheetah as well. I think Evinrude made one, and I saw an old Sno Jet at a show that had one in too. There's still a picture in my old cell phone of it.

I get to see my car today but I'll be pulling the engine out and hopefully repairing the front stack. Once it's fixed and running again it too will see a dark spot in a shed under a tarp for it's winters nap.

Mine is in a nice warm warehouse were I see "her" and work on "her" every week. I just bought "her" in August from a guy outside of Boston, she's an '81 GSL race car and will be in the Mobil GT Sprints next year at Mosport.

It's an Evinrude. It has reverse, heated handles etc...
