Who Insures this STUFF?

I wanted to get the car re-appraised after all my invested money/parts/time.
I get a Polite Kick in the Gonads.."Sorry,gotta drop your Insurance."..Gee, thanks for that.

WHAT Company will take a Hopped up TII?.Body kit, engine power mods, interior alterations...and so on.
Hagerty requires another car within 10 years old registered to me,for daily use.I got an 88 they will not look at as a daily..too old in their eyes.
I am Livid and on the point of parting this car.It sits in the driveway..looking at me.
..any suggestions?.
Thanks Guys as always.
D/STYX.

Try Intact Insurance. They require that you have a daily driver as well but they don't have a year limit on it. My daily is more than 10 years old and they insure my other cars.

Have you taken a look at a broker. They're able to find you insurance.

At the time I made mods, I was with pilot insurance. But about 4-5yrs ago they were bought out by aviva. My insurance still stands as the original pilot standards. Can't really change it since they're one of the few who will insure a modded vehicle.

Ouch. My insurance conversation went like this. "Is your car modified for speed or performance" Is that the company asking or you? "Its the company" Then of course not. "Is it though?" Oh hell yeah. "Well the car has full coverage to the original book value/appraisal but they won't cover the aftermarket parts, it takes a special policy for that" Sounds good to me.

In the land of alberta, they will insure anything, for a price. I'm with state farm I think. Through a broker.

I'm trying to find out If the old company put a "memo" on my insurance policy so that others inquiring would see the Mention of Mods.
at this point I may just say it has a Body kit and seats and stereo..call it a day..
One way or other,I feel like there is gonna be Fornication of some sort heading my way and It won't need dinner and a movie.

Best option for older cars with mods.
Limited to "fun drives" and no big-box store parking lots (read: don't get groceries in it") but otherwise they're fairly non-restrictive.
They do make you have another car or have access to another car (company car/family car is ok with them) so the OP might be SOL with them.

OP: If your just want liability insurance, you can do as Alak did. Expect to get next to nothing for a TII if you get into an accident.

There's no way to track from company to company if you declared you had modifications on your vehicle.

However if you've spoken with one company and they've opened a file on you in their system it's probable that they have a note on there that they declined to offer you coverage due to vehicle modifications.

Facility insurance - probably about $2000 per year, but you can drop most coverage in the winter, so it may only cost around $1200 for the year. I am building a Cobra kit car - the only insurance option in NS will be facility.

LS1/T56 TII here and the only people that will look at it is facility to actually insure it for what it is. It's also not cheap (pm me for premium if you're interested).

I present a warning for those who don't declare everything about their vehicle in terms of performance upgrades. I had my last project stolen, and the insurance company found that parts were installed that changed the risk of the policy that I hadn't told them about. After a year or so of small claims court, I only received a portion of the appraised value (also never saw the car again). If, god forbid, I was in an accident with the car, the liability potion of the policy also would have been void. I now make sure the insurance company knows exactly what my cars are - I figure it as having to be willing to "pay to play".

This is what alot of people overlook.
If you do not let your insurance know what you've done to your car, do not expect them to cover you if something were to happen to the car.

I did not want to risk anything when it came to the car. So I made sure I got a company which covered all mods. Requirement was getting appraised. So I paid for the appraisal and it has held since I started being insured by this company.

Worse thing you can do is not declare things you've done to the car.

..and this is WHY I want to go about it "by the book"..I'm trying not to lose any of what I have in the car..(minus depreciation of course).
It's just that in doing so,they are bending you over the desk and Penalizing the hell out of you for being honest about your Mods.
I'm waiting on Facility..Yay..I have the feeling this is gonna hurt.
But don't stop with the suggestions Guys..I appreciate all replies.

We all know insurance is a cash cow, but its not bad to have when something does go wrong.

It's not as bad as you think either. Of all the cars I own, the FD is the cheapest to insure. It's age does play a factor, but since its modded, I can't expect to pay the tiny bit insurance some of these guys are paying on a few of those "pleasure only" insurance companies.
That and the fact the car was appraised with such a high value is why I still pay regular price insurance on the car. If I were to break it down, I think she costs me $98 a month to insure.
Hell, my mazda3 costs me $140 a month to insure. It's ridiculous!

A month ago, I went to the 'Classic Car Auction' in TO.
I picked up a brochure from an event vendor/sponsor... Zehr Insurance Brokers Ltd.
1 800 667 1802
Zehr Insurance Brokers

I have no personal experience with them. I'm with Lant/Silver Wheel/Hagerty
My daily driver is NOT my RX7, so my FC insurance is really cheap.
I had to get it appraised, initially. I figure the appraised value they set will be the return value I get if it was stolen or totalled. You got to ask yourself, what would you need to get out of it, in the worse case? $10000, $5000, $2000.
I beleive that if your car is written off, you get first crack at buying back the parts car. Which leaves you with the pieces to rebuild it all over again...less the chassis.
