I hear you. I have to put race plugs in my car now and I choked at the price. What I was able to find out is that the recommended race plug is the same heat range and construction as a common 2 stroke motocross plug (older 250cc Can Am 2 stroke plug). I bought some and threaded them in to a spare housing I had. They fit the same way and the only issue is the height of the hex. I am going to turn down a cheap Canadian Tire 13/16th spark plug socket to see if I can get it to fit between the boss and the plug. If I can get it to work then I will be able to use race plug heat range NGK plugs for just over $8.00 Cdn each and plugs that are available at any motorcycle shop that sells Honda, Suzuki, Can Am or Kawasaki or even Bultaco!
I will keep everyone informed.
Eric
I know the dealer increased the price by MORE THAN DOUBLE but i am still able to get platinum NGK locally here for $12 a piece list price, and the guy actually told me is $7 a piece for his shop price.

I just checked with our parts dept. The 2nd gen plugs BUR7EQ $ 25.76 retail and the BUR9EQ are the same. RX7 club pricing would be $ 84.44 plus tax for the set or $ 20.76 each. FYI The NGK race plugs R6725-11.5 are very specific if your engine require them and in my opinion wouldnt vary from them.
I went to get some from the dealer this spring......it seems a certain Aaron cake bought the last few sets, and i couldnt bring myself to spend the $100 to special order plugs, so i soaked a set in varsol for a few days and cleaned them up, they've been workin good for a few months. i know a secret mazda dealership out in the middle of no where im hopin still have the $50 set kickin around
I remember when I nearly **** myself when a friend got me a set of plugs for about $80 (that includes discount. Bleh. I get them from corksport, now. Good price, and they have always shipped super fast to me.

Why don't you guys try other NGK plug's.....like the B9egv's, I use these and 10's in my car, 4-B9egv's would work just as well as the stock plugs.
You can order them from the USA for around $5 each plus shipping....

BR7EIX and BR9EIX are in the Rx-8, almost the same as the stockers,
but as 23 racer said, I had to turn down a socket to get them in.
$48 buck shipped to my door.
Denzo's are IW22's

There is a whole lotta info on this site, you can check out different plugs, what uses them, etc.

Update:
Called the dealer (Westowne Mazda) and indeed regular plugs list around $25 each. Couldn't believe it until I found this thread while searching.
Related question - aren't the 3rd gen. spark plugs identical? I guess Mazda uses different part numbers (maybe to charge more), but NGK lists 2nd and 3rd gens. the same. Obviously comparing regular to regular, and platinum to platinum.
edit: Sparkplugs.com seems like the best deal right now.

Going to bring an old thread up from the dead......
I need new plugs for my car. After doing some searching it appears there is a few different suggestions here.
The NGK R7420 seems a bit more $$ compared to other options yet I have yet to read any complaints.
I could not find them on the site above, and the cheapest I seen was $35 a plug. Does anyone have a different source?
