Where can I learn how to race?

Hey guys so with summer around the corner I want to attend as many tack days as possible and I would really like to get some 1 on 1 time with a track instructor so that I can properly learn how to drive my car fast. Does anybody have any suggestions on how I should go about doing this? I definitely want to do it in my own car just so that I can get a feel for its limits.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers!

Various clubs/people run driving classes. Check this out for starters.

I've heard great things about the BMW events.

OTA - Ontario Time Attack - has a two day school is May at the DDT layout at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. It's one of the best schools around. Pardon my bias - I've instructed there for years and even organized it once or twice. OTA is part of CASC-OR - which also hosts race level schools.

There doesn't seem to be much road racing action on Vancouver Island, unfortunately – just karting at Western Speedway.

Re: race instruction in BC – check out the Sports Car Club of British Columbia

List of BC tracks (looks like Active Mountain Raceway near Merritt never got started):

I learned a lot at CASC-OR Ontario Time Attack school last spring. I'm looking forward to attending the second OTA session on the Grand Prix track at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park on July 5.

Mark your calendars – the Time Attack/Autoslalom Open House is on April 6 at Johnston Research and Performance in Mississauga:

Mission Raceway - in Mission near Abbottsford - but that's a long way from the Island.

Last year I was an Instructor Instructor for OTA. This year I am thinking that I amy add the OTA School as well. I also helped out at the OTA Grand Prix Track Instructing last year. I had a guy in a Ford Ranger and a guy in a tricked out STI. Good fun, but kinda iffy when you are banging down through Turn 2 when the driver of the truck gets it a bit sideways......

Let me know if anyone is going to attend the OTA school in May as if I could help out anyone, that would give me a reason to attend.

Eric

I try to give other drivers a lot of room on the track.

My first time lapping at Cayuga, a Nissan GT-R spun out in front of my car while the instructor was driving me around the track. I was glad my first lap wasn't my last
