What Was Your First Car?

Lets have some fun. My First Car was a 1964 Ford Galaxie 500. It had the monster 223 Silent Lash 6 cylinder, a 1 BBL carb and blasted out 138 HP. It was my grandfathers car and he gave it to my dad, who sold it to me for $200 in 1975. It was white with a sprayed on fake black vinyl roof and a red interior with a bench front seat. I completely redid that car about 4 times in the next 4 years. I was never happy with it until I pulled out the 6 cylinder and put in a built 351 4BBL and C4 Transmission that I built myself. At the end it also had a reverse teardrop hoodscoop, slapper bars and the high beams pulled for airducts.

It had Mickey Thompson G50x15 Indy Profiles on the back and F70x14 Playboy Astro GT's on the front. Wheels were Cragar Cast 5 spokes. The back end was jacked up to the sky to clear the rear tires and I put in 2 buckets and a floor shifter and console from some early 60's Pontiac. I ran some high flowing exhaust manifolds and 2 Hush Thrush mufflers. Dang I loved that car. Lots of great memories of cruising up and down Simcoe street in Oshawa, listening to my 8 Track Player with Kansas' Wayward Son blasting away. God I thought I was cool and that chicks dug me, LOL. Well at least 1 did in the car...........

Spun a bearing one night doing something illegal on the street and parked it in front of my parents house while I saved up money to repair it. One day came home from school and my dad had called the wreckers who took it away for scrap. I got $50 for the car and 2 weeks later I saw the car running around town being driven by somebody else, . Just like breaking up with your first girlfriend and seeing her the next night out with somebody else.

my first car was my red 88 gxl lol. i got it for $1000 needed tires and dident idle when cold. fixed the idle issue by turning the screw on top of the intake.(idled like a dream). i got my first full time job(instead of finnishing highschool) and got the car on the road. i put a full stock exhaust on it with a gutted cat to replace the original rotted one that had half the y pipe fall off and had been welded shut. got my dad to ceramic coat it black.

in december i was still driving it and one night i went for a "cruse" to niagra falls at 3 am. on the way back i blew it up. 3 weeks, outside in my neghbors driveway, in january. with only basic renches, a ratchet set, a chain and a 4x4 wood post. i had me an engine swap.

after driving it for a few months, all of a sudden one night my tach stops working(rpm shows on rtec) backfireing and stater no longer working. im now trying to fix it for this winter.

1970 Torino GT in Grabber Green! I learned a lot in that car..........Like why a high lift camshaft requires a high stall torque converter and why you need brakes.......................It didnt end pretty lol

I was ticked especially as my dad signed the ownership papers over. But I needed a place to sleep and I had 2 other cars and a motorcycle in the driveway, so I felt like I really didn't have a leg to stand on, so no real yelling and screaming.

Really just p!ssed me off to see it bombing around town all the time and getting rattier and rattier until one day it disappeared about 8 months later.

1986 Honda Accord Hatchback.

Real POS beater. Didn't own it for too long, it was a hand-me-down from my parents when my mom got a new car.

A Dodge Dart with a straight 6, destroyed it drag racing, ran off the road into a corn field and spilt the car in half. I guess I'm really showing my age on this thread!
First new car a Mazda GLC the egg on wheels.

I missed making my millions by not patenting my smoke plexiglass headlight covers we made for it in 1980.....6 years before they became fashionable. Hey i thought it was cool lol

I'd be furious! Probably be the same for no yelling or screaming, but I'd probably never talk to him again if he did that. That's a dick move; could of talked about it at least.

Learned to drive on my parents 1990 626 and drove it until my second year of college. I bought my 1992 Mx-3 back in 2002, and just scrapped her last year. Messed the valvetrain thanks to a throttle cable that split and got stuck, bounced off the rev limiter several times. Had a crazy 2.5 build planned and most of the parts, but as I was working on the car and taking the motor out, I found rust hiding around, especially seeing carpet through the wheel well. After much though and figured how much money I still had to spend, including body work or the hard job of trying to find another one in good shape and swapping it all over, figured it was best to cut my losses and part her out. Bought the Rx-8 in cash with what I got for the Mx-3.

I'd like to say I did pretty well for a first car

1971 Charger. 383 Auto. It was so rusted out and when I got it, it had no back window and sat in a field for years. But it was transportation.

Knowing what I know now about cars I probably wouldn't have traded it for a mini-van.

My first car was a 1979 RX-7 S. Steel wheels and a 4 speed. Paid $5,000 to Downview Chrysler for it in 1986, and that price included a new paint job.

In 1990, I had Mazdees give it the full 13B ported with a Delorotto side draft treatment, added a Mariah Mode 1 and some other body kit parts, and had it painted black.

It finally went to RX7 heaven in 1997.

1988 Chevrolet Celebrity. Was given to me for free and was worth every penny. It cost nearly $3K to get it road worthy. Wound up letting the body guy convince me to paint it what should have been gold, but it came out a horrible light brown. Was a fun car though.

First car I owned was a 1984 Honda CRX. Bought it from a friend of mine for $400 with a blown motor, and spent another $400 as I recall to get another one swapped in. This would have been the summer of 94 or so as I recall?
I put some ASA 5-spoke 14" alloys on her, and dropped in a stereo system worth a multiple of the car and was the coolest kid amongst my friends (sad, I know) for a couple of years before I sold it to pay University tuition. Actually sold it for about what I had into it (minus stereo). Got around $1200 for it. (I had to put a new rear floor and cross member in it, put an exhaust on etc.) Decent little car

First new car was a 1999 Honda Civic SiR I bought when I graduated from University. Loved that car. Still kind of miss it, but I sold it in the summer of 03 just before my RX8 got delivered. I like the 8 more (except for the gas mileage.)
