Visting Vancouver, advice on what to do?

Hi, my friend and I are thinking of taking a trip to visit Vancouver and my parents who lives on the island. I used to live there but moved to Boston 7 years ago. I was too young to do anything "adult" back then, so I have no idea. It will be her first time visiting there although her dad used to live there. We will be in the city for the weekend, and the island on weekdays.

Basically, we would like to know where to party,see, eat and stay. We are both into the more upscale techno/house scene. We would like to avoid the college acting crowd, and would like to go to places where people are our age, which is 23-25+. Also, safe places are a must. We also like fine dining and have no problems dressing up for it. Where should we sight see during the day?

We want to know where to stay. We are both pretty much city people so staying in the part of the city that is lively will be nice, but would like to keep the costs as low as possible. We are not picky as far as luxuary goes, as long as its clean we are happy.

And finally, whats there to do on the island? My parents live in Nanaimo. Anything fun there?

Any input will be appreciated, thanks!!

The Island runs on a different clock speed! Generally many here are an older crowd.

Try these links;

Local college radio on the internet http://www.chly.ca/

One of the bars with live bands http://www.thequeens.ca/

And a forum on night life in Nanaimo http://www.nanaimoinformation.com/fo...isplay.php?f=3

The Island is a cool place to tour around!
