Turbo Purchase - Turbo the NA

okay, so as a driver, you thirst for the need for speed, and well as nice as a motor swap is its time consuming, and i know that people have walked away from turbo-ing the NA saying, never again, but hey, you gotta learn from mistakes right?

So, here i am asking you fellas, before you flame,
what a good sized turbo would be to put me up in maybe the 220 range, i think that would be adaquite, ill be running the top mount cause well, i have the hood and whats the use of a scoop if your not going to use it..

other then it just looks sooooo awesome.
but yeah

All i need to know is a decent sized turbo that wont.. well... blow things up, unless i want to one day. haha.

Cheers,

Cody

turbo doesn't blow up cars - tuning does.

A stock TII turbo will put you over 200 wheel @ 10psi

Aaron Cake has a detailed thread on the FAQ section. I'd recommend no less than an S5 Turbo setup.

There was a gent here last summer that dyno'd 215WHP (not sure the PSI) on a stock S5 motor with only exhaust and a cone filter as his mods.

Stock S4 or S5 (preferably) TII turbo. Use the NA ECU and a piggyback like the S-AFC.

That will be quite a trick with the NA intake.

In short, YES.

However, getting it to work as a whole (with N/A manifolds and such) is not as simple. There are many approaches to this project, many based on budget.

Its more of a Money to Resource ratio. The more you can do yourself, the cheaper it is.

Yes....

http://www.aaroncake.net/rx-7/naturbo.htm as more info then you probably need about turbocharging the NA engine using the stock NA intake manifolds. Make sure to read the whole thing since there are changes at the end to cover some improvements in the original text. This is sort of the most basic install that can be done and what I used as a proof of concept for the rest of the project.

My S5 TII put out 240whp, with HKS filter, Light Weight Flywheel, full 2.5" exhaust, and an Rtek.

is it possible to switch the Intake manifolds from the s4na to s4 T2? or equivilent?

just cause i have full access to doiing the exhaust manifold and mockups and stuff like that.. so its not a problem when it comes to the install..
i was just curious as to an actual TURBO.

and Arron whats wrong with a top mount? i know about the heat thing but isnt it still less spool up?

and already ive got the oil cooler, rad and then a front mount? that seems like a lot for the front..

EDITTTTTTTT

also who makes a nice sturdy looking fuel rail for the 13b? the non 13btt... that is. jsut cause i love the idea. and well it just makes things look awesome.

get back to me.

Cheers,
Cody

You can modify the TII intake manifolds to fit the NA engine. Instructions are in the 2nd gen forum if you search.

Stock turbo if you are looking for 250HP.

It would be very difficult to mount the TII intercooler in stock location if you use the NA intake manifold. If you use the TII manifold, you're 75% of the way to a TII engine so you might as well swap in the TII block as well to make the conversion more standard.

Seems to work for a lot of people...

Why do you want to replace the fuel rail? The stock rails will support 600+ HP worth of flow. There are a few aftermarket replacements but they are designed for the TII and FD, and are not a simple bolt on.

Check this out if you don't want to do it yourself:
