Question Transporting a USDM '87 TII over the border?

I've got a guy in BC who's looking to buy a TII parts-car that I'm selling, and we're just wondering how the process works. It seems like it'll be pretty easy for him to bring the car over the Canadian border since it's over 15 years old. And from what I've read second-hand, it appears he'll have to pay a couple different fees that are around 7% each--like a duty fee, and a GST.

Other than that, the car has a clean WA State title that has been signed over, and he will be trailering it over the Canadian border as a parts-car basically.

Have any of you guys done this before, or does anyone have some advice? The interested buyer was saying that he thought that he needed to have the vehicle insured for the duration of the trip. Can anyone confirm this?

I got some of my information here: http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/E/pub/cp/...f5048-eng.html

Thanks for any response or imput!

Did some browsing on your forum and it seems like this question has been asked before... I noticed one thing someone mentioned is daytime running lights?

I have a Canadian model 1986 GXL as my DD (here in WA), and it didn't come equipped running lights... Wondering then if this applies to 15+ year old cars--or just the newer ones.

Alright, I should have searched before making this thread.

I found this to be helpful:

He looked at it, asked me some questions(ie: were did i find out about the car/ and make sure you don't try to lie about how much you payed because they really try to find out if your lieing) then sent me on my way!!! Didn't ask to see the car or anything!!!!! Then when i got back home i went into the minestry, showed them the papers, they transfered the car into my name as "unfit"(which just means not saftied or e-tested) then sent me on my way again..... Very easy process. All i have to do when i want to put it on the road is show up with a safty and e-test to get my plates.(could be next month, could be in 5 years it doesn't matter because the car is already in my name) And oh ya they don't charge the tax when you transfer the car because you already payed it at the boarder.

If you need any other info PM me!!

If it's going to be a parts car just bring it over and pay the taxes. No need for registration, paperwork, whatever because it's never going to hit the road. If they don't buy that, just torch it in half and say it's used auto parts.
